A free area with separate hours for the temple and tower
Zhenshan Scenic Area is in Zhenshan Subdistrict, Sihui, inside the Zhenshan tourism area. Use “Zhenshan Hotel” or “Liuzu Temple” for navigation. A relaxed visit takes about 2–3 hours. The Xiangfeng hiking loop takes about 1.5–2.5 hours. The scenic area is free and does not require a reservation.
Liuzu Temple is listed as open 08:00–17:00, while Tianyin Tower opens 08:30–17:30. The tower and temple have no basic admission charge, but the Shanhu Water Park and other seasonal activities are separate. “Free scenic area” does not mean every activity is free.
Supplies are limited, and some side trails have unclear signs. The temple and stream stops can work for families; the advanced loop includes climbing and slippery sections and is not suitable for very young children on unconfirmed trails.

Two to three hours: a relaxed route
Zhenshan Hotel → Xianzong Miji Archway → streamside pools → Tianyin Tower → Liuzu Temple → return. This combines water, a viewpoint and a temple without committing to a long mountain route. It suits first-time visitors and anyone who wants an easy day.
The pools are shallow, but stones become slippery after rain. With children, use shoes with good grip or bring sandals and spare clothes, and check the water flow and permitted areas on the day.
1.5–2.5 hours: Xiangfeng hiking loop
Start at the Xiangfeng Triangle in Zhenshan Park, pass Le Ye Pavilion and Xiangshan Pavilion, continue to the signal tower and descend to Liuzu Temple. The listed distance is about 5–8 km with more than 700 metres of ascent, so this suits visitors with some outdoor experience.
Some sections have unclear signs. Download a route map such as Two Steps before starting, and carry trekking poles and enough water. If energy drops, rain arrives or it becomes late, finish at Xiangshan Pavilion or head toward Liuzu Temple instead of treating the full loop as compulsory.
Half a day: a family stream route
Visitor centre → streamside shoal → natural clear-water pool → century-old waterwheel group → restaurant below the mountain → return. This short route focuses on water play and rest and suits a summer family visit, but the water park’s opening depends on the season.
There is no reliable shop on the mountain, so bring water and snacks. If you plan to eat at a farm restaurant or use a swimming pool, confirm the charge and opening conditions rather than assuming every restaurant offers the same arrangement.
Build your day
Relaxed route: stream first, tower and temple afterward
Zhenshan Hotel → Xianzong Miji Archway → streamside pools → Tianyin Tower → Liuzu Temple. Put the water activity first; if clothes get wet, there is still time to rest or change later. The tower and temple then make a natural second half.
Tianyin Tower is a seven-storey traditional-style tower with views over Sihui, the Sui River and the surrounding hills. It has stairs, so older visitors and children should rest between floors rather than start the climb near closing time.
Hiking route: the Xiangfeng loop
Xiangfeng Triangle → Le Ye Pavilion → Xiangshan Pavilion → signal tower → descend to Liuzu Temple. The pavilions and tower offer wider views, but the route uses energy quickly. Bring water, trekking poles and shoes with good grip from the start.
Do not take an unmarked shortcut simply because the sign is unclear. A route map is only a reference; if a section is closed, wet or visibly unsafe, follow the on-site direction and the ground conditions.
Put Liuzu Temple in the second half
Liuzu Temple is a Buddhist site associated with the Sixth Patriarch. The grounds include the Eight Stupas of the Sixth Patriarch and an Ashoka pillar. Keep quiet and follow the open areas; treat the temple as a religious site rather than only a photography set.
If you also want to visit Sihui Qishi River, use a short Zhenshan route in the morning and go to Qishi River or the traditional paper-making village in the afternoon. Both are outdoor visits. In hot weather, remove one long route rather than stacking two demanding walks.
Get there
Free and convenient parking for drivers
The drive from Guangzhou or Foshan takes about 1.5–2 hours. Use “Zhenshan Hotel” or “Liuzu Temple.” Parking in front of these areas is listed as free, with many spaces. Some roads have unattended small stalls; still make sure you are in a public or scenic-area space before leaving the car.
By public transport, travel first to Sihui Bus Station and then change to a bus or taxi. From Zhaoqing East Railway Station, a taxi takes about 40 minutes. Local public transport is limited, and a taxi after the hike may take time to arrive.
The entrance affects the walking difficulty
For Liuzu Temple and the stream, navigate to Liuzu Temple or Zhenshan Hotel. For the Xiangfeng loop, look for the Xiangfeng Triangle entrance in Zhenshan Park. After arrival, confirm the parking position, return point and the day’s opening hours for the tower and temple.
Do not combine the relaxed and hiking routes on impulse. If you want Tianyin Tower, Liuzu Temple and the full 5–8 km loop, allow at least half a day and check the weather first.
Know before you go
Decide for yourself about incense and donations
At places such as Xiannv Altar, people may invite visitors to pray and then specify offerings of CNY 168 or CNY 88. The payment code may be a personal account. If you want to pray, go directly to Liuzu Temple and refuse fixed-amount or personal-payment requests.
There is no reliable shop on the mountain, so carry enough water, snacks and repellent. For stream activities, bring sandals and spare clothes. After rain, trekking poles reduce pressure on slippery descents.
Closing times and weather
Liuzu Temple may close after 17:00, while Tianyin Tower is listed until 17:30. Arrive in the morning or early afternoon if both are important; do not leave the final mountain path until the last opening period.
Mosquitoes and midday sun are common. In heavy rain, poor visibility or very slippery conditions, cancel the side trails and riverside stops, take a shorter route or descend. Safety matters more than adding one more viewpoint.
