The square and the city's history
The tower commemorates the 1923 Erqi General Strike. Its paired-tower structure rises 14 floors and is a Zhengzhou landmark. The full exterior view from Erqi Square suits visitors with limited time or anyone who wants a quick introduction to the city's symbol.
The first- and second-floor exhibition
Once inside, prioritize the Qianqiu Erqi permanent exhibition and historical documentary on the first and second floors. They explain the event's background in a short visit. Displays on the upper floors are more repetitive, so the lower floors are the better focus.
Daytime and nighttime exterior views
Lighting around 19:00 and the hourly playing of The East Is Red depend on the day's arrangement. For night photography, place Erqi Square or the Dehua Street footbridge in the early-evening part of your route. Night lighting does not mean that the tower interior stays open.
Build your day
Start with the full view from the square
After exiting the metro at Exit D, photograph the full tower from Erqi Square before entering through the South Gate. This lets you finish the exterior view first and then decide whether to go inside, keeping the stop between about 30 minutes and one and a half hours.
Enter for the first and second floors
Inside, make the Qianqiu Erqi exhibition and the documentary your main stops, then leave according to the on-site route. The windows are sealed, and the tower does not offer a high-level city view.
See the lighting in the evening
If you want both daytime and night views, finish the interior visit during opening hours, then return to the square or the Dehua Street footbridge to wait for the lights. The hourly music and lighting times are current arrangements, not a fixed show guarantee.
Get there
Metro Lines 1 or 3
Take Metro Line 1 or Line 3 to Erqi Square Station (二七广场站) and leave through Exit D. The station opens directly onto the tower area. Nearby, you can add Dehua Walking Street, the Dehua Street footbridge or Asia New Life City for a break or meal, depending on your time.
City walking
Erqi Tower works well as part of a central-city walking route, but it is not practical to combine it with a distant suburban attraction in one route. If you continue to Dehua Street in the evening, finish the tower and square visit before arranging food.
Know before you go
Do not expect a viewing tower
The windows are sealed, so you cannot climb up for a panoramic view of Zhengzhou. There is also no restroom inside. Treat the building as a city-history memorial and a short museum visit, which gives a more accurate expectation.
What to prioritize
The first- and second-floor displays and documentary contain the main information, while the upper-floor exhibits are more repetitive. With limited time, the square exterior plus the first and second floors covers the core visit.
Nearby breaks and food
Asia New Life City has restaurants and seats, while Dehua Walking Street is suitable for continuing on foot. Kyoto Lao Cai Ji and He Ji Hui Mian are nearby food options; opening arrangements depend on the day.
