Address, booking and hours

Henan Museum is at No. 8 Nongye Road in Jinshui District, Zhengzhou. The main building is free, but you need a real-name reservation through the Henan Museum WeChat account. Tickets are released five days ahead at 17:00, and same-day night-slot tickets may appear after 16:00; follow the arrangement shown on the current reservation page. From Tuesday to Sunday, the museum is open 09:00–20:30, with last entry at 19:30. It is closed on Mondays, and public-holiday arrangements may differ.

How much time to allow

Allow around two hours for the representative objects, or three to four hours to cover the main galleries by floor. A night visit after 16:00 gives you more time to look around, but the main building uses a one-way route and does not allow re-entry after you leave. Plan luggage storage and a meal around your entry and exit rather than assuming you can return inside.

Choose your visit

Around 2 hours: representative objects by floor

Start on the first floor and focus on the Jiahu Bone Flute, Duling Fang Ding, Fu Hao Owl Zun and Lotus-and-Crane Square Hu. On the second floor, look for the Four-Deities Cloud-and-Qi Painting and Wu Zetian's Gold Tablet; the third floor has a Ru ware sky-blue goose-neck bottle, and the fourth floor has the Cloud-Pattern Bronze Forbidden. If you want to avoid backtracking, note the gallery locations first and then adjust the order to match the areas open that day.

3–4 hours: work down from the upper floors

Start on the fourth floor, then continue through the third, second and first floors. This route suits visitors who want to cover the main building more fully while avoiding some of the crowd flow. The fourth-floor galleries should be completed before 17:00, so make them the priority if you arrive later in the afternoon.

Who it suits

Henan Museum is a direct introduction to Henan's early civilizations and bronze collection. First-time visitors to Zhengzhou who want one museum to establish a historical timeline will find the highlights easy to follow. Photographers can look at the lobby's spiral staircase, the bronze galleries on the fourth floor and the vermilion wall near the gift shop, but reflections on the display cases can be strong.

Build your day

Before entering: handle the reservation and luggage

After you arrive, complete identity checks and security screening, then leave large luggage in the storage lockers on both sides outside the main entrance. You cannot re-enter after leaving the main building, so organize water and anything you need to carry before going through security.

Daytime route: first floor to fourth floor

The roughly two-hour route runs from the first floor to the fourth, using the nine representative objects as anchors. If you want a slower visit, make the first and second floors your priorities and decide from the remaining time whether to complete the third and fourth floors.

Afternoon or night slot: start on the fourth floor

For a three- to four-hour visit, begin on the fourth floor and work down through the third, second and first floors. A night slot after 16:00 gives you more time for the galleries. If the lobby has a lighting arrangement after 19:00, you can look at the building before leaving, but the lighting schedule depends on the day.

Get there

Metro Line 2 plus BRT

Exit at Guanhu Tun Station (关虎屯站) on Metro Line 2 through Exit C, walk to the BRT stop, and take a B2, B11 or similar service for about one stop to Bowuyuan (博物院). This is useful if you do not want to walk a long distance along Nongye Road.

Metro Line 7

Exit at Agricultural University Station (农业大学站) and walk about 15 minutes to the museum. The two metro options leave you at different points, so choose the line before booking a hotel or fixing the day's route.

Know before you go

Reservations and crowds

Free entry does not mean you can walk in without a reservation. Weekends and public holidays can be difficult booking periods, and gallery queues, security screening and identity checks all take time. Even after a reservation is confirmed, arrive within the assigned time slot.

One-way route and photography

The main building is one-way, and you cannot go back in after leaving. If you miss a gallery, you cannot simply return to it later. Display cases can reflect light, so avoid direct glare and congested areas when taking photos, and follow the photography rules in each gallery.

Food and breaks

There are simple food options on the first and second floors. Shiyu Laoyuanzi near Nongye Road is an option for a full meal after leaving the museum. During holidays, confirm your entry, luggage storage and route first, then fit in the meal.
