Address, entrance and tickets
Zhongyue Temple is on Shaolin Avenue in Dengfeng. The usual entrance is the “First Famous Mountain” gate arch at the South Gate. The adult ticket is listed at CNY 30 and the discounted ticket at CNY 15. A CNY 100 annual pass is another option if you plan to visit several Dengfeng attractions. Opening hours are around 07:30–17:00. Real-name tickets can be purchased through the Manyou Songshan mini-program or a partner platform.
How much time to allow
Allow about one hour for the main buildings along the central axis. Add the Song-dynasty iron figures in the Divine Treasury and the coiled-dragon ceiling in Junji Hall, and allow 1.5–2 hours. Taishi Que is about 500 metres south of the temple and can be reached on foot after the temple visit.

Buildings along the central axis
The main gate, Yaocan Pavilion, Tianzhong Pavilion, Junji Gate, Junji Hall and Imperial Book Tower form the main route through Zhongyue Temple. Junji Hall is the central building, with a double-eaved roof, yellow glazed tiles and a coiled-dragon ceiling inside.
Song-dynasty iron figures and old cypresses
The Divine Treasury on the east side holds Song-dynasty iron figures, and the temple preserves more than 330 old cypress trees dating from the Han to Qing dynasties. The “Monkey Cypress” and the Eastern Han stone guardians along the sacred way are easy to overlook. A folk custom of touching the iron figures may be available, but the method and access depend on the day's management.
Extension to Taishi Que
Taishi Que is about 500 metres south of Zhongyue Temple and can be reached on foot after the internal route. It is a separate archaeological site, not part of the temple's ticketing or central-axis route.
Build your day
1 hour: central-axis route
Enter through the South Gate and follow the main gate, Yaocan Pavilion, Tianzhong Pavilion, Junji Gate, Junji Hall and Imperial Book Tower. This order covers the principal buildings and works well in a half-day Dengfeng itinerary. The temple route ends at the Imperial Book Tower and does not become a mountain-hiking route.
1.5–2 hours: add the eastern details
After the central axis, go to the Divine Treasury on the east side to see the Song-dynasty iron figures, then return to Junji Hall to look at the coiled-dragon ceiling and timber details. If you are also visiting Taishi Que, place the 500-metre walk outside the temple at the end of the deeper route.
Return after the temple and Taishi Que
After visiting Taishi Que, return toward your original parking or transfer point. Holiday traffic controls may send vehicles to a more distant parking area and require a shuttle, so adjust the return time to the day's arrangements.
Get there
From Zhengzhou to Dengfeng
A direct bus from Zhengzhou Central Bus Station to Dengfeng takes about two hours and is listed at around CNY 30. From Dengfeng, continue by taxi or local transport. A taxi or ride-hailing car from Zhengzhou to Zhongyue Temple is listed at about CNY 120–150 one way and is more practical for groups of two to four.
Driving and parking
Set your navigation destination to the official Zhongyue Temple parking area. Parking is listed at around CNY 10 per visit. During holidays, parking 5–7 km away followed by a shuttle listed at around CNY 30 per person may be arranged. Roadside temporary parking and private fee directions are not a dependable arrival plan.
Know before you go
Annual pass and single tickets
The CNY 30 adult ticket, CNY 15 discounted ticket and CNY 100 annual pass cover different arrangements. The annual pass is useful only if you have already decided to visit several attractions; for a standalone Zhongyue Temple visit, choose the ticket available that day.
Vegetarian meals
The temple may sometimes offer communal vegetarian meals or noodles, depending on the day's arrangements. Braised mutton and home-style dishes nearby are options after leaving the temple.
Visit at a manageable pace
The main sights are concentrated along the central axis and around the eastern Divine Treasury, so the core route takes one to two hours. Wear comfortable shoes, then decide whether to walk to Taishi Que after the temple; the two locations are connected by a short walk, not a mountain route.
