Plan at a glance
Location, entry and scope
The memorial museum is at 93 Cuiheng Avenue in Nanlang, Zhongshan. The usual entrance is the scenic area's main gate, where visitors go through security screening. This visit focuses on Sun Yat-sen's former residence, the museum displays and the courtyards; it does not cover the whole Sun Yat-sen Hometown Tourist Area. Nearby villages, parks and Zhongshan Film City have their own arrangements.
Tickets, opening hours and visit planning
Admission is free. On most regular days, visitors can enter after security screening without a reservation; for public holidays, a real-name reservation through the official WeChat account is recommended. Opening hours are 09:00–17:30, with last entry at 17:00. The museum is closed on Mondays except public holidays. Allow 1–1.5 hours for the former residence and main galleries, or 2–3 hours for a more complete visit around the memorial area.

The former residence and courtyard
The former residence is a two-storey building with Western-style arches outside and a Chinese layout with traditional furniture inside. A sour plum tree in the front courtyard was grown from seeds Sun Yat-sen brought back from Honolulu in 1883, and is one of the main courtyard stops. The tree and the residence can be seen together without adding a separate detour.
Museum displays and Lingnan village buildings
The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Museum holds more than 400 objects, paintings and manuscripts, making it a useful stop for visitors who want historical context before looking at the buildings. If time allows, continue to the Revolutionary History Exhibition Hall, the Cuiheng residential display area, and the former residences of Lu Haodong and Yang Yin. These sections suit families and first-time visitors; there is no need to rush through every room for photographs.
Build your day
A 1–1.5-hour quick route
Enter through the main gate and complete security screening, then visit the former residence, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Museum, and the back courtyard with the sour plum tree. This order keeps the building, exhibits and courtyard together, and works well if you have limited time or plan to continue to another nearby attraction.
A 2–3-hour fuller route
For a longer visit within the memorial area, follow the Revolutionary History Exhibition Hall, the former residence and courtyard, the Cuiheng residential display area, the former residences of Lu Haodong and Yang Yin, and the Xinhai Revolution Memorial Park. The route combines indoor galleries, historic buildings and outdoor walking. Visit the main galleries during the brighter part of the day and leave the lakeside green space for later. This remains a memorial-area route; it is not a single entrance or ticket for the whole hometown tourist area.
Get there
High-speed rail and bus
For driving, search for “Sun Yat-sen Former Residence Memorial Museum.” By bus, travel to “Sun Yat-sen Former Residence Station (孙中山故居站).” From Nanlang Station (南朗站), a taxi takes about 10 minutes. A taxi from the station to the main gate is easier if you are travelling with children or carrying luggage.
Parking and walking
The parking area at the entrance costs about CNY 10 per visit. The car park opposite the entrance or the parking area behind Zhongshan Film City can be alternatives, but they require a longer walk. On public holidays, confirm the parking location and walking distance before deciding whether to add Film City to the same day.
Know before you go
Security, reservations and the Monday closure
Queues may form at the main gate, the memorial museum and the former residence, because each point may have its own security check. Arrive early on public holidays and complete any required real-name reservation in advance. The regular Monday closure has public-holiday exceptions; if you are also visiting another museum in Zhongshan, check its own closure day rather than applying this schedule to every venue.
Shade, water and footwear
The courtyards have limited shade, so bring sun protection and insect repellent in summer. Free drinking-water dispensers are available to the left of the museum and on the second floor of the visitor centre; bring an empty bottle. Wear flat, comfortable shoes. Some indoor display areas advise against flip-flops or overly revealing clothing.
Bags and memorial-site conduct
Pets and large backpacks are not allowed, and lockers are available at the entrance. Travel light where possible. This is a memorial site, so follow the on-site instructions, do not touch exhibits, and avoid blocking other visitors while taking photographs.
