Street layout and entry points
Sunwen West Road Pedestrian Street is in Shiqi, Zhongshan. The usual entry points are the east end beside Zhongshan Department Store and the west end near Qijiang Bridge. This is an open old-city district rather than a single venue with one ticket gate. It is suited to walking, architecture and food, while shops, museums and restaurants keep their own hours.
Opening hours and visit planning
The street is free to enter throughout the day, with no reservation or unified visitor limit. Nearby shops usually open around 09:00–22:00. Xiangshan Commercial Culture Museum is listed at 09:00–17:00 and closed on Mondays. Allow about 1.5 hours for a short walk, 3–3.5 hours for a fuller old-city route, or about 2 hours for an evening visit.

Arcade buildings and old-city streets
The main attraction is the mix of Nanyang-style arcades, former hotels, qiaopi offices and connecting lanes. The arcade corridor runs for roughly 500–800 metres and is useful for looking at arches, columns and street depth in daylight. You can divide the walk into shorter sections with food or coffee breaks rather than covering the whole street at once.
Museum stops and evening views
Xiangshan Commercial Culture Museum has a pink exterior, a spiral staircase and recreated scenes from old Shiqi, making it a useful indoor stop during the day. In the evening, you can look for the large screen near Zhongshan Department Store, the Ferris wheel at Xingzhong Plaza and the river view from Qijiang Bridge. Lighting, shop hours and performances have their own schedules, so do not treat them as fixed nightly shows.
Build your day
A 1.5-hour quick route
Enter from the east end, walk through the Nanyang arcades, visit Xiangshan Commercial Culture Museum, buy souvenirs at Juxiangyuan, and finish at Qijiang Bridge for the Ferris wheel view. This route gives first-time visitors a quick sense of the district. If the museum is closed, replace the indoor stop with more time in the old buildings and lanes.
A 3–3.5-hour old-city route
Follow the Huangbaoche statue at the east end, the former Sihao Hotel site, Yong'an Qiaopi Office, Xiangshan Commercial Culture Museum, the arcade street, Sifangjing, Xingzhong Plaza and Qijiang Bridge. Choose food and coffee stops according to what is open. Finish the main street walk before deciding whether you still have the energy for the riverfront at night.
A 2-hour evening route
Around 17:30, walk through the arcades while there is still daylight. Around 19:00, continue to the lit street and the screen near Zhongshan Department Store, then walk to Qijiang Bridge for reflections, the Ferris wheel and the river. The route includes a fair amount of walking, so leave time to return to your car or bus stop.
Get there
Public transport and high-speed rail
Bus routes 001 and 002 stop at “Fengming Road Station (凤鸣路站)” or “Sunwen West Road Pedestrian Street Station (孙文西路步行街站).” From Zhongshan Station, a taxi takes about 15 minutes. The old-city core is easiest on foot; use a short taxi ride or bicycle only if you are adding Qijiang Park or another outlying stop.
Driving and parking
For driving, search for Xingzhong Plaza Underground Parking or Qijiang Bridge Parking. Xingzhong Plaza Underground Parking has a reference price of CNY 5 per hour. Weekend parking in the old city is tight, so do not spend too long searching for a roadside space; the area around Zhongshan Memorial Library is another option for parking and walking in.
Know before you go
Street hours and venue hours are different
The district may be open all day, but individual shops do not keep one shared schedule. Xiangshan Commercial Culture Museum is closed on Mondays and may require an ID registration at entry. If an indoor venue is important to your visit, place it in the route first and leave the arcades and evening views for later.
Walking, sun and crowds
Some lanes are narrow, and the street becomes much busier on weekend afternoons. Weekday mornings, early mornings and the period before evening crowds are easier for a relaxed walk. Summer visitors should bring sun protection and insect repellent, and wear shoes suitable for extended walking.
Food and closing times
Food on the main street may cost more than food in nearby lanes, and a popular shop is not automatically the right choice for every visitor. Some older restaurants close in the afternoon, so confirm hours, prices and portion sizes before ordering. For a full meal, nearby Fengyuan Commercial Street and side lanes are useful alternatives.
