Plan at a glance
Mountain area and trailheads
Wugui Mountain is not an enclosed park with one ticket and one entrance. It is a wider mountain area that includes Longkeng Country Trail, Wugui Mountain Nature Scenic Area, Qixi Village and the Qia'ao Ancient Road, among other nodes. Common starting points include the Longkeng Country Trail car park, the south gate of Wugui Mountain Nature Scenic Area and the Qia'ao Ancient Road station. Most outdoor trails and parks are free; separately operated sites such as Xiaoyaogu require their own tickets.
Opening hours and route choice
Outdoor mountain areas can be accessed throughout the day, but it is best to complete the main walk between 08:30 and 17:00. The Longkeng leisure route takes about 1.5–2 hours, the Baiguding loop about 5–6 hours, and a slower Qixi Village route about 2.5 hours on foot. The distance and elevation gain vary greatly, so do not plan Wugui Mountain like an ordinary city park.

Reservoirs, waterfalls and easy walking
Longkeng Reservoir, streams and waterfalls suit first-time visitors and families. Water levels may rise after rain, but the paths also become more slippery. The Longkeng trail uses relatively gentle stone paving and boardwalk sections, with bamboo and streams along the way, so it works well for a short outdoor outing with regular rest stops.
Ridges, villages and the ancient road
The Baiguding route is for visitors with hiking experience. The summit looks across the Wugui Mountain range and Changjiang Reservoir, while the ridge section requires more stamina and can be windy. Qixi Village, Sanxi Village, the Hakka tulou-style buildings and the Qia'ao Ancient Road are better for a slower day of village architecture, coffee and historic paths. You do not need to fit every node into one visit.
Build your day
A 1.5–2-hour Longkeng leisure route
Drive to the Longkeng Country Trail car park and take the gentle A route along stone paving and boardwalks. Follow the stream and bamboo grove to the waterfall, rest or have coffee nearby, then return along the same route. The walk is about 2.7 kilometres and suits beginners and families; after rain, shorten the route if the ground is slick rather than forcing your way to the end.
A 5–6-hour Baiguding loop
Enter through the south gate of Wugui Mountain Nature Scenic Area, climb Baiguding via the paved and mountain sections, then descend past the Guanyin Temple area. The route is about 10 kilometres with roughly 800 metres of cumulative ascent. Reserve the morning for the hike and prepare an offline track, water and food before setting out; this is not a route for casual shoes and a last-minute start.
A slower Qixi Village route
Start at Qixi Ecological Farm, visit the outdoor art display at Guinan School, then browse the Bu Zhuang and Qima Liangshou shops before resting at a rice-field homestay or mountain café. The walking portion is about 2.5 hours and suits visitors who prefer a slower village day. Farms, shops and cafés keep their own hours and are not one unified attraction.
Get there
Driving and public transport
Driving is the most practical option. Choose the Longkeng Country Trail car park, the south gate of Wugui Mountain Nature Scenic Area or the Qia'ao Ancient Road station according to your route. By public transport, travel to Guinan Station (桂南站) or Nanqiao Village Committee (南桥村委会), then walk or take a taxi into the mountain. The trailheads are far apart, so choose the route before choosing where to get off.
Parking and movement in the mountains
Most trailheads and nodes have car parks, usually free, but popular trailheads fill on weekends. Arrive early and do not leave the car on an unmarked roadside space, especially on village roads or bends. There is no reliable internal shuttle system; switching between trailheads usually requires a new taxi ride or a drive.
Know before you go
Signal, navigation and supplies
Some mountain sections have no mobile signal. Download an offline track in the 两步路 hiking app before leaving. There are no continuous shops along the trails, so bring at least 2 litres of water, food, a hiking pole and insect repellent. Do not plan to rely on a café for trail supplies.
Shoes and weather
Loose stones, steep sections and wet soil after rain can make the route much harder. Wear non-slip hiking shoes for the longer trails. Summer has long exposed sections, so avoid the strongest midday sun; in wet weather or after heavy rain, switch to a shorter route or postpone the hike and never enter an unmarked trail.
How it differs from Xiaoyaogu
Wugui Mountain is a broad mountain area made up of free or open-access nodes, while Xiaoyaogu is a separately ticketed family water park and forest attraction. Free hiking, spring pools, performances and admission tickets belong to different arrangements. Do not use Xiaoyaogu's facilities or prices to describe Wugui Mountain as a whole.
