Plan at a glance

Free exterior visit; ticketed performances

Zhuhai Opera House is at 129 Yuwan Road, on the north side of Yeli Island. You can enter from Yeli Island Park or the Haiyun City side; the exterior and Yeli Island are free to visit all day, while theatre performances require a separate ticket.

Allow about two hours for the building and waterfront walk alone. For Yeli Island, sunset, the night lighting and a meal nearby, allow four to five hours.

Best time to visit

The building is easy to see in daylight, while its lights are usually on from about 6:30pm to 10:30pm. A music fountain runs at 8pm on weekends and public holidays.

Choose your visit

A two-hour exterior route

Start near the archway at Mingtin Park, photograph the theatre and the surrounding waterfront, then walk onto Yeli Island. Finish near Haiyun City for a drink, a meal or onward transport.

An afternoon-to-evening visit

Walk the Yeli Island loop in the afternoon, use the waterfront and Haiyun City viewing points for photos, and stay for sunset and the evening lights. If you want to see the fountain, be in place by around 7:30pm.

A Lovers' Road route can begin around the Love Post Office, Zhuhai Fisher Girl, City Balcony and Xianglu Bay Beach, then continue north to the opera house.

Build your day

A slow Yeli Island walk

The Yeli Island loop is about 2.8 km. Walk the loop at an easy pace, using different points along the shore to view the opera house and the sea, then continue to Haiyun City without retracing the same route.

Leave the lights until last

Daylight is useful for the white shell-shaped exterior and sea views. The blue-hour period after sunset is better for the illuminated building; if you are not attending a performance, make the lights and fountain the final part of the visit.

Get there

Bus, walking and parking

Take Z11, L1 or the Lovers' Road sightseeing line to Zhuhai Opera House stop, then walk about five minutes. You can also arrive along the coastal path or cycle lanes from Lovers' Road, but shared bikes cannot enter Yeli Island Park.

Zhuhai Opera House car park and Haiyun City underground car park are both nearby. Yeli Island Park car park costs CNY 2 per hour, capped at CNY 20 for 24 hours, though parking and exit queues can be long on public holidays.

Know before you go

Performances, children and crowds

The exterior does not require a performance ticket, but theatre attendance does. Children under 1 metre are not admitted to performances.

Weekend and public-holiday evenings are busy, especially around the fountain. Do not arrive only at the start time if you want a clear waterfront viewing position.

Photography and breaks

Around 3-5pm is useful for photographing the building's exterior, while the blue hour about 20 minutes after sunset is useful for the lit night view. Bring sun protection for the daytime waterfront, a light layer for the evening sea breeze, and comfortable shoes for the island walk.

Haiyun City is directly beside the opera house and is the easiest place for coffee, desserts, water or a proper meal.
