Park content and tickets

Liaozhai City is in Pujiazhuang, Hongshan Town, Zichuan District. It has several entrances, so set your navigation destination to the “Liaozhai City” visitor centre. The park is themed around stories from *Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio* and sites associated with Pu Songling. Areas include Fox Fairy Garden, Liuquan, Shiyin Garden, Water Street, Liaozhai Palace, and Liaozhai Jingmeng.

The reference basic ticket price is CNY 30–60. A Liaozhai Palace single-attraction ticket is approximately CNY 30–50, and a Liaozhai Jingmeng single-attraction ticket approximately CNY 30. Standard tickets, single-attraction tickets, evening tickets, and combination tickets cover different content; combination tickets are approximately CNY 80–100. After 16:00, there may be discounted evening tickets priced around CNY 20–30. Confirm the ticket type being sold that day.

Timing and visiting style

Opening hours are usually around 09:00–21:00. Allow about 2 hours for a quick daytime route focused on the gardens and Liaozhai Palace. If you want to combine daytime scenery, sunset, lights, and evening performances, enter around 16:00 and allow 3–4 hours.

Liaozhai Palace suits visitors who enjoy audiovisual effects and story settings, while Liaozhai Jingmeng includes live NPCs and offers a more intense scare experience. Families with children and visitors who dislike frightening activities can limit the visit to the gardens, Liuquan, Liaozhai Palace, or Ali Farm, and skip Liaozhai Jingmeng.

Gardens and Liaozhai stories

Fox Fairy Garden, Liuquan, and Shiyin Garden combine garden spaces, inscriptions, and scenery based on Liaozhai stories. They suit visitors interested in historic-style buildings, garden walks, and traditional-style photography. Liuquan and its related stone inscriptions work well as a short stop, while the red walls, bamboo grove, and bridges in Fox Fairy Garden are suitable daytime photo areas.

Liaozhai Palace uses audiovisual effects and projection to recreate scenes from stories such as “The Painted Skin” and “Nie Xiaoqian.” It suits visitors who want themed displays and an indoor visual experience. From the top floor, you can look over the park and combine the indoor visit with garden views on one route.

Evening visits and scare experiences

Shiyin Garden, the mist area on Water Street, and the performance square suit visits from afternoon into evening. Once the lights come on, you can continue photographing the water street and gardens. Liaozhai Jingmeng features live NPCs and is a separate scare experience; visitors who are easily frightened, young children, and anyone who does not want jump scares can skip it.

Photography-focused visitors can prioritise Fox Fairy Garden, Liuquan, the top floor of Liaozhai Palace, and Water Street. Younger visitors looking for a more thrilling experience can add Liaozhai Jingmeng after confirming the ticket type. An evening ticket may not include every special attraction, so confirm prices and entry conditions separately.

Build your day

A 2-hour daytime route

Enter through the visitor centre and go first to Fox Fairy Garden, then Liuquan, followed by Liaozhai Palace. Leave according to the exit direction. This route covers gardens, cultural points, and an indoor themed experience, and suits daytime visitors, families with children, and anyone skipping the scare attraction.

If you want to add Ali Farm, check its opening status between Fox Fairy Garden and Liaozhai Palace, then adjust the route according to the children’s time there. Liaozhai Jingmeng is not part of this short route, so confirm whether it requires a separate ticket when buying the basic ticket.

A 3–4 hour sunset-to-evening route

Enter around 16:00 and photograph the daytime scenery in Fox Fairy Garden first. Continue through Liuquan and Shiyin Garden, then enter Liaozhai Palace and wait for the change from indoor lighting to the outdoor evening sky. After dark, go to the mist area on Water Street and finish at the performance square for that night’s scheduled show.

Adjust the order of Water Street and Liaozhai Palace according to the performance time. Ride-hailing cars may become less available after 20:00. After the show, go directly to the arranged pickup point or parking lot instead of leaving the return trip until after the last public-transport service.

Get there

Buses, driving, and parking

From Zibo Railway Station or Zichuan urban area, take Bus 23 to Liaozhai City. By car, navigate to the “Liaozhai City” visitor centre. There are several parking areas nearby; some may be free. Confirm the parking position and fee from the signs on site.

Liaozhai City is relatively separate from the urban attractions, and public-transport and ride-hailing returns are less convenient. Visitors entering in the afternoon and staying for the evening session should confirm the departure direction on arrival. Drivers can park where the car remains within walking distance of the exit; taxi passengers should arrange a pickup in advance or agree on a meeting point with the driver.

Moving around inside the park

The park is mainly explored on foot. Use the on-site paths between Fox Fairy Garden, Liuquan, Shiyin Garden, Water Street, and the performance square. Liaozhai Palace and Liaozhai Jingmeng are different experiences with separate entrances, ticketing, and queues; entry arrangements for one cannot replace those for the other.

Know before you go

Ticket types, performances, and choosing activities

The reference basic ticket price is CNY 30–60, Liaozhai Palace is approximately CNY 30–50, Liaozhai Jingmeng approximately CNY 30, and combination tickets approximately CNY 80–100. After 16:00, there may be discounted evening tickets around CNY 20–30. Before buying, confirm the entry period and whether Liaozhai Palace, Liaozhai Jingmeng, and evening performances are included.

Liaozhai Jingmeng includes live NPCs, so visitors who are easily frightened and families with children can skip it; the gardens, Liuquan, and Liaozhai Palace still offer independent content. Shows and performance times may change by date, so move through the evening route according to that day’s schedule.

Late-night returns and nearby visits

Ride-hailing cars may be less available after 20:00, and waiting times can increase when the evening session ends. If you plan to stay for the performance, arrange the parking location or pickup vehicle in advance. Judge the public-transport return by the services running that day.

Pu Songling Memorial Hall is next door to Liaozhai City. It is free but requires a reservation with identification and can be an optional nearby stop. It has separate entry and timing from Liaozhai City, and is not being created as a separate page in this batch.

Food and photography

Nearby Liuquan Renjia serves local dishes such as Zichuan sesame flatbread and tofu boxes. After the evening visit, Liaozhai City barbecue or San Da Pen are other options. Fit your meal around the end of the show and the return vehicle; do not miss the pickup time for a meal.

The red walls, bamboo grove, and bridges in Fox Fairy Garden; the stone inscriptions at Liuquan; the top floor of Liaozhai Palace; and the mist area on Water Street are good photo stops. Water Street and the performance area become busier at night. Stay on the open route and avoid standing in passageways or at performance entrances for a long time while taking photos.
