Historic kilns, factory buildings, and hours
Yanshen Ancient Town is at No. 50 Nangou Street, Shantou Subdistrict, Boshan District. It was converted from historic kilns and old factory buildings and retains 13 Ming- and Qing-era kilns along with industrial remains. It is best understood through its kilns, factory spaces, ceramics, and glass studios rather than as a purely original village.
There are several entrances. The reference adult ticket price is CNY 60. Normal hours are roughly 08:30–18:00, with last admission at 17:30; on holidays, hours may extend to 21:00 with an evening session. Allow about 1.5–2 hours for a quick route or 3–4 hours if you add workshops and studio activities.
Decide whether to join a workshop
The historic kiln area, sagger wall, Fifth Workshop, and Glass Street are good priorities for a first visit. Ceramics, glass DIY, and studio activities require separate checks of price and duration, and a hands-on session can significantly change the length of the day.
By car, navigate to “Yanshen Ancient Town”; parking is approximately CNY 10 per day. You can also take Bus 181 or another local route to the surrounding area. Some shops and factory spaces can feel hot around midday in summer. Light is often better for photography after 16:00, while evening ticket arrangements should be confirmed for the day.

Historic kilns and the sagger wall
The historic kiln area includes mantou kilns and other traditional kilns. The sagger wall is built from large numbers of stacked used saggers and is one of the town’s most recognisable architectural details. The Fifth Workshop retains old factory buildings and a tunnel kiln, making it suitable for visitors interested in ceramic production, industrial heritage, and architectural photography.
Around 16:00, the light around the kilns and sagger wall is often better for photos. The inside of the Fifth Workshop, Glass Street, and the “Very Zibo” sign wall can also serve as photo stops, but shops and studios operate independently and open areas depend on the day’s status.
Ceramics, glass, and time in the district
On Glass Street, visitors may see firing or making demonstrations, and some studios offer ceramics or glass DIY activities. Visitors who enjoy making things can allow 3–4 hours; 1.5–2 hours is usually enough for the kilns and old factory buildings alone.
Yanshen Ancient Town is about a 20-minute drive from Red Leaf Persimmon Cliff Resort and about 5 km from Yuanshan National Forest Park. The old town, mountain scenery, and admission arrangements are separate, so allow time to drive between them.
Build your day
A 1.5–2 hour kiln route
Enter through any open gate, visit the historic kiln area and mantou kiln first, then walk along the sagger wall. Continue to the Fifth Workshop to see the old factory buildings and tunnel kiln, and finish along Glass Street. This route focuses on architecture, industrial heritage, and walking through the district, and suits visitors not joining a workshop.
There are several entrances, so choose your exit direction according to which gates are open that day. If visiting around midday in summer, note that shade varies between the kilns, factory buildings, and streets; the later afternoon is better for combining photography with walking.
A 3–4 hour workshop route
Start at the historic kiln area, pass the sagger wall and Fifth Workshop, and then walk through the Time Tunnel. According to the studios’ arrangements, join a ceramics or glass DIY activity, and finish with time on Glass Street and in the specialty shops. Confirm the activity contents, making time, and collection arrangements on site.
If you plan to continue to Red Leaf Persimmon Cliff Resort or Yuanshan National Forest Park, finish the workshop and meal in the old town before driving onward. Evening sessions, discounted tickets, and the opening of some areas may change; do not build the whole day around a fixed assumption of free entry after 18:00.

Driving, buses, and entrances
By car, navigate to “Yanshen Ancient Town”; parking is approximately CNY 10 per day. Public transport such as Bus 181 can take you to the surrounding area, but you still need to walk to the specific entrance.
The attraction has several entrances, and the relationship between each entrance and the parking area can affect the route order. After entering, locate the historic kiln area and Fifth Workshop first, then decide whether to continue toward Glass Street or the studios.

The reference adult ticket price is CNY 60, and online platforms may offer discounts. There may be evening sessions on holidays. Whether entry is free or discounted after 18:00 depends on that day’s ticketing arrangements.
Some areas may still be under construction, maintenance, or active use. Old factory buildings, guesthouses, craft shops, and unused spaces cannot all be assumed to form one continuous visit. Set expectations around the areas open that day, with the kilns, sagger wall, and Fifth Workshop as the main focus.
Comfort and spending
Some factory buildings and shops may not have air conditioning around midday in summer. Entering after 16:00–17:00 is more comfortable for a longer walk and photo session. Workshops, food, accommodation, and shopping are charged separately; before joining a DIY activity, confirm the material, finished-product, and collection fees.
Liuliyuan Hotel is near the old town, and local snacks such as cai jian bing are available inside. If continuing to Red Leaf Persimmon Cliff Resort or Yuanshan, calculate driving time, parking, and tickets separately rather than combining nearby attractions into the old town budget.
