Entrance, ticket price, and seasonal hours

Tanxishan Scenic Area is in Shigou Village, E'Zhuang Township, Taihe Town, Zichuan District. Visitors usually enter through the South Gate visitor centre. By car, navigate to “Tanxishan Scenic Area South Gate Parking Lot.” From the Taihe toll gate on the Jiwei Expressway, the drive takes about 15 minutes. Parking at the South Gate is approximately CNY 10 per day.

The reference adult ticket price is CNY 80; children under 1.2 metres enter free. From April to October, hours are roughly 07:30–17:30, with last admission at 16:00. From November through March, hours are roughly 08:00–17:00, with last admission at 15:30. The sightseeing bus, panoramic elevator, glass bridge, rafting, swing, and high-speed slide are ticketed separately.

Choose a route type first

The area has many mountain paths and stairs. For a shorter route, choose between a lower-effort version and a more thrilling version. The lower-effort version uses the sightseeing bus, 100-metre panoramic elevator, and 1-km high-speed slide. The thrilling version can climb to the top and then take the aerial glass rafting ride; confirm the end point and remaining walking for that day’s arrangement.

A complete 4–5 hour route suits visitors who want Jiulong Pool, Yingbin Waterfall, the Grand Rift Valley, caves, and summit rides. The temporary offer for students, young people, and current middle-school or high-school exam candidates through 2026-08-31 is not included in the regular ticket copy; confirm any other offer separately on site.

Choose your visit

Gorges, waterfalls, and caves

Jiulong Pool, Yingbin Waterfall, and the Grand Rift Valley form the natural section from the lower mountain to the mid-slope. They suit visitors who like streams, waterfalls, and forest paths. The Legend of Xingdong is a temperature-controlled cave-and-light space at around 18°C, useful as an indoor stop during a mountain route.

The glass bridge is high on the mountain. The aerial glass rafting ride is about 2,000 metres long with a drop of roughly 160 metres, while the 1-km high-speed slide runs from the summit to the mid-slope and its speed can be adjusted. Visitors choosing high-altitude rides should also consider queues, height limits, slippery stairs, and the return position after descending.

Who is it suited to?

Nature lovers can make Jiulong Pool, the waterfalls, the Grand Rift Valley, and the cave the main content. Visitors who enjoy rides can choose the glass bridge, cliff swing, glass rafting, or high-speed slide. Families with children can reduce consecutive uphill sections and put the Legend of Xingdong and waterside scenery in the first half of the route.

Different routes place different demands on legs and time. Groups with children, older adults, or anyone unable to climb for long distances should prioritise routes covered by the sightseeing bus and elevator, and confirm the height requirement for rafting in advance.

Build your day

A 3–4 hour quick route: lower-effort or thrilling version

For the lower-effort version, take the sightseeing bus from the entrance to the Glass Bridge Visitor Centre, ride the 100-metre panoramic elevator uphill, visit the glass bridge, and take the 1-km high-speed slide downhill. Then visit the Legend of Xingdong and walk out of the scenic area. Confirm the sightseeing bus, elevator, and slide tickets separately; you still need to walk after the slide ends.

For the thrilling version, walk or take a vehicle from the entrance to the summit, take the aerial glass rafting ride directly down to the foot of the mountain, and then visit the Legend of Xingdong and other level-ground areas. Rafting is a one-way downhill activity. Before choosing it, confirm that it is open, check the height requirement, and ask how to return from the mountain foot.

A 4–5 hour gorge route

From the entrance, follow the waterside boardwalk past Jiulong Pool, Yingbin Waterfall, and the Grand Rift Valley. Then take the sightseeing bus to the mid-slope, walk through Meinu Cave and Zhaoyang Cave, and continue to the summit for the glass bridge or cliff swing. Descend by glass rafting or the 1-km high-speed slide.

Wet stairs, queues, and sun exposure can change the pace of this route. If the summit ride has a long wait, complete the gorge and caves first, then choose one downhill activity according to the time left, keeping enough time to return to the South Gate.

Get there

Driving and movement inside the scenic area

By car, navigate to “Tanxishan Scenic Area South Gate Parking Lot.” From the Taihe toll gate on the Jiwei Expressway, the drive takes about 15 minutes. Public-transport options inside the scenic area are limited, so groups with older adults, children, or a fixed return time may find it easier to drive or arrange a pickup in advance.

Inside, movement mainly uses the sightseeing bus, 100-metre panoramic elevator, walking paths, and downhill rides. The sightseeing bus stops only at designated points, and you still need to walk after getting off. Rafting and the high-speed slide are one-way downhill options; confirm the return plan between their end point and the entrance on site.

Know before you go

Tickets and ride restrictions

The reference adult ticket price is CNY 80, and children under 1.2 metres enter free. The sightseeing bus, glass bridge, rafting, swing, and high-speed slide may not be included in the first-entry ticket. When buying a package, check each included transport and ride; do not assume every activity is covered by one total price.

Rafting usually requires a height of at least 1.2 metres. With children, confirm the day’s rules first. The glass bridge, rafting, and high-speed slide may pause because of weather, maintenance, or on-site arrangements. Keep an alternative route for rainy or very hot weather.

Shoes, queues, and food

Mountain paths, stairs, and boardwalks can be slippery. Wear shoes with good grip and bring sun protection. On weekends and public holidays, the sightseeing bus and popular rides may have long queues; entering early leaves more time for walking and the return trip.

Nearby farm restaurants include Xinyi Jiayuan and Chaoyang Restaurant, while Tanxishan Villa Restaurant is inside the scenic area. They can serve Boshan-style tofu boxes and mountain vegetables. The return journey from the mountain takes time, so plan food and pickup before leaving.
