How to Visit
1

Separate the town walk from paid exhibition halls

The riverfront area, Guojiu Gate, and Yangliuwan Old Street are easy to explore on foot. If you want to visit Chinese Liquor Culture City, buy the separate CNY 60 ticket for that exhibition.

Tip:Do not mix up the free town walk with paid indoor attractions.
2

Visit Chinese Liquor Culture City during the day

If you want a structured look at sauce-aroma liquor history, brewing culture, and Maotai-related displays, Chinese Liquor Culture City works best in daylight. Allow 2-3 hours.

Tip:Tastings, guided explanations, or package products may cost extra, so do not assume they are included in the basic ticket.
3

Leave the town area for afternoon and evening

Yangliuwan Old Street, the Chishui River side, Guojiu Gate, and Maotai ferry area are better for walking. The town atmosphere usually feels better around dusk than at midday.

Tip:Streets in the town are narrow and busy with vehicles, so driving into the core area is not always easier than parking and walking.
4

Choose between liquor culture and revolutionary history

Maotai Town has liquor-culture sights and places linked to the Four Crossings of the Chishui River. If time is limited, choose one theme first instead of trying to cover every small stop.

Tip:If you are not especially interested in liquor culture, Maotai Town works better as a half-day stop on a Renhuai or Chishui River valley route.
Highlights
  • Maotai Town's core appeal is the Chishui River valley, sauce-aroma liquor culture, and town landmarks.
  • Chinese Liquor Culture City is useful for understanding Maotai liquor and broader Chinese liquor culture.
  • Guojiu Gate and the Chishui River side are good for exterior photos and night views.
  • Yangliuwan Old Street is a short walking area and does not need a complex route.
  • Maotai ferry and Four Crossings of the Chishui River sites add revolutionary-history context.
Insider Tips

The town walk and Chinese Liquor Culture City use different ticket logic; budget CNY 60 if you plan to enter the exhibition.

Do not assume ordinary visitors can enter production areas of the distillery. Most visits focus on the town and open exhibition venues.

Parking and passing other vehicles can be difficult in the town, especially during holidays. Park first and walk when possible.

Drink moderately if tasting liquor, and do not drink if you need to drive or travel onward.

If coming from central Zunyi, the drive is not short, so combine Maotai Town with Renhuai, the Chishui River valley, or nearby stops.
