How to Visit
1

It works best with Tianlong Tunpu

Wulong Temple is near Tianlong Town. The separate ticket is CNY 25; if you also visit Tianlong Tunpu on the same day, a combined ticket or package may make more sense.

Tip:You can visit it separately from Anshun city, but it feels more complete when paired with the Tunpu village area.
2

Walk up the stone steps first

From the ticket area, the climb to the temple takes about 15-20 minutes. The route is not long, but it uses stone steps and slopes.

Tip:The mountain is not high. The real issue is slippery stone steps and keeping a stable position when taking photos.
3

Focus on the stone walls and Ming wooden structure

Outside, Wulong Temple feels like a stone fortress. Inside, look for Yuhuang Pavilion, beams, moon beams, and wooden structural details.

Tip:Do not only photograph the exterior. The wooden structure inside is what makes it different from an ordinary mountain temple.
4

Afternoon light is better for the stone walls

Around 15:00-17:00, angled sunlight makes the stone walls and mountain layers clearer.

Tip:Drones are not allowed in the scenic area, so do not bring one expecting aerial shots.
Highlights
  • Wulong Temple combines a Buddhist temple, Taoist shrine, and military fortress.
  • The stone walls, gates, and mountain body connect visually, making it look like a fortress on the hill.
  • Yuhuang Pavilion and the wooden structures inside are rare Ming-era architectural remains in Guizhou.
  • The old ginkgo tree is worth seeing in autumn, when it pairs well with the stone walls.
  • Visiting it with Tianlong Tunpu helps you understand both defensive and religious spaces in the Tunpu area.
Insider Tips

The hill is not high, but there are many stone steps, so wear anti-slip shoes on rainy days.

If Tianlong Tunpu has already made you tired, keep Wulong Temple to the core temple area.

Do not expect a large temple complex; its value is in structure and location.

Drones are banned, so plan ground-level photos instead.

Afternoon light is better, but do not arrive too late, because you still need time to descend.
