Treat Zhijin Ancient City as an evening walk and food stop
Zhijin Ancient City works best after Zhijin Cave or Zhijin Grand Canyon, when you can walk around in the evening, eat local snacks, see Caishen Temple, and stroll along Guancheng River. The old-city streets are free to enter, and you do not need to reserve a full day for it.
Tip:This is not a large paid ancient town. Its value is in county-town life and night views, not in the number of formal attractions.

Start with Caishen Temple, then go to Jiangjun Street Market
Caishen Temple is the easiest landmark to recognize in the old city and works well for a short photo stop. Jiangjun Street Market is better for local snacks and everyday Zhijin life.
Tip:If time is limited, Caishen Temple plus the market is enough. You do not need to walk every street.

Go to Pingyuan Ancient Town at night if convenient
Pingyuan Ancient Town is close to Zhijin Ancient City, and its lighting is better at night. It works well for an after-dinner walk and photos. During the day, it feels more ordinary.
Tip:Pingyuan Ancient Town is more of a recreated old-style district, so do not expect an untouched original old town.

Staying in Zhijin County makes the route smoother
If you plan to visit Zhijin Cave, Zhijin Grand Canyon, and Wujiang River Source Gallery, staying one night in Zhijin County saves energy. The ancient city works well as an evening finish, not as a reason to travel from Guiyang by itself.
Tip:The old city is a useful add-on to a Zhijin route, not the main dish.
