First floor: heritage from along the Grand Canal
The first floor presents intangible cultural heritage from eight provinces and municipalities along the Grand Canal. Displays include a Beijing cloisonné work titled Chuan Cheng Da Yun (船承大运), a model of the Cangzhou Iron Lion (沧州铁狮子) in the Hebei gallery, and the clay sculpture Sanchahekou (三岔河口) in the Tianjin gallery. Start here for an introduction to the region’s different crafts.
Hands-on activities
The first floor also has interactive exhibits, such as trying on a lion-dance head and taking part in a simulated grain-transport activity. Families can fit these in between the displays; availability depends on the day.
Second and third floors
The second floor focuses on everyday aesthetics, heritage-inspired creative products and hands-on crafts. Some craft activities have a fee. The third floor has digital light displays and an immersive film, which costs around CNY 10. Add these floors if you are interested in interactive and digital exhibits.
Who will enjoy it
The mix of traditional objects and hands-on activities suits families and visitors interested in canal culture and traditional crafts. If you have limited time, focus on the first-floor highlights. Allow extra time for the upper floors if you want to try a craft or see the digital displays.
For an evening walk beside the Grand Canal, see Nanchuan Old Street.

Build your day
A focused first-floor visit
Enter Garden Expo Park through the South Gate and follow the signs to the exhibition hall. Start with the intangible cultural heritage displays from regions along the Grand Canal, then look for Chuan Cheng Da Yun (船承大运), the Iron Lion model and Sanchahekou (三岔河口). After the main exhibits, try on a lion-dance head or take part in the grain-transport activity. The first floor makes a focused visit on its own.
A 2–3-hour visit across all three floors
Visit the first-floor highlights, then continue to the crafts and creative displays on the second floor and the digital-light area on the third. Before joining an activity or film, check whether it is running and whether it costs extra. Follow the hall’s signs when leaving.
A nearby break or stop
Cangzhou Fang (沧州坊商街), next to the exhibition hall, is convenient for a light meal or a rest. If you want to see industrial heritage, walk to Dahua Industrial Heritage Park (大化工业遗存文化区) to see the large tanks and pipes retained in the redeveloped site. These are separate stops.
