Choose your visit
The Iron Lion and viewing platform
The Iron Lion is the main attraction. The viewing platform brings you close enough to see its form and take photos. If time is short, visit the platform and return the same way. Continue to the Iron Lion Culture Hall to learn about the monument’s preservation and repair.
The Iron Lion Culture Hall and Iron Coin Vault
The Iron Lion Culture Hall follows the monument’s long history and conservation. The Iron Coin Vault uses its currency displays to introduce trade in historic Cangzhou.
The old city and other halls
The longer walk also passes the Old City Cultural Square, Folk Culture Hall and ancient city wall. Choose the full route if you enjoy history and local culture or want a half-day stop outside central Cangzhou. If you prefer a brief visit, focus on the lion itself.
For a museum visit covering Cangzhou’s wider history, see Cangzhou Museum.
Build your day
A 30–45-minute short visit
Enter through the main gate and walk straight to the Iron Lion viewing platform. Stop for photos, then return to the same gate along the path you came in on. This route focuses on the monument and works well when you have a tight schedule or are visiting another attraction the same day.
A 1.5–2-hour full route
From the main gate, first visit the Old City Cultural Square, then continue to the Iron Lion viewing platform. Next, see the Iron Lion Culture Hall, Iron Coin Vault and Folk Culture Hall. Finish by following the ancient city wall toward the exit. The route is mainly on foot and combines outdoor heritage sites with indoor exhibits.
Photography and exit
For softer side light on the Iron Lion, arrive before 10:00 or after 15:00. On a clear day, the blue sky can make a good backdrop. The full route exits by the ancient city wall; the short route returns to the main gate.
Get there
Bus and high-speed rail
From downtown Cangzhou, take bus 901 or 907; the ride takes about an hour. From Cangzhou West Railway Station, transfer to a bus or take a taxi to the park. Check the day’s services and connections before setting out.
Driving and parking
The drive from central Cangzhou to the main gate takes about 30 minutes. Parking at the park costs CNY 5. Navigate to the main entrance of Cangzhou Iron Lion and Old City Culture Park (沧州铁狮与旧城文化公园), park inside the designated lot, then walk into the grounds.
Know before you go
Walking, sun and monument protection
The park is large, and the full route involves sustained walking, so wear shoes with good grip. Summer sun can be strong; bring water and sun protection. Follow barriers and heritage-protection signs when taking photos, and do not enter restricted areas.
Food and a nearby stop
There are casual places near the park selling local snacks such as donkey-meat flatbread (驴肉火烧). For a full meal, head back to central Cangzhou, where options include 0317 Hotpot Chicken (0317火锅鸡), Yulequan Hotpot Chicken (余乐圈火锅鸡) and Gaomana Donkey Meat on Baked Flatbread (高玛纳驴肉火烧). Ji Xiaolan Culture Park (纪晓岚文化园) is about a 15-minute drive away and can be added as a separate stop.
