Plan at a glance
Location and the South Gate
Nandagang Wetland is in the Nandagang area of Huanghua, Cangzhou. The grounds cover a large area, so set your navigation destination to the South Gate Visitor Center (南门游客中心). The South Gate (南门) is the main entrance. Visitors planning to take a boat also enter here, then use park transport to reach Yandang Lake Pier (雁荡湖码头). The North Gate (北门) is not the main boat-boarding entrance.
How to explore
The main sights are Yandang Lake (雁荡湖), reed waterways, the Bird-watching Pavilion (观鸟亭) and wetland boardwalks. The park is large, so visits usually combine park transport, walking and a boat trip. The boat is a one-way transfer within the park, not a return service to the South Gate.
Tickets and opening hours
Tickets for admission, boat trips and park transport are sold in different forms and bundles, and online prices may vary by date. When booking, check what the ticket includes, especially whether it covers the boat and park transport. The commonly published opening hours are 09:00–17:00, but operations may change with the season or weather; check again before setting out. Children under 1.2 m enter free; check the day’s ticket terms for details.

Choose your visit
Allow half a day for the wetland
Allow 3–4 hours to see Yandang Lake, the Bird-watching Pavilion and the wetland paths. This suits visitors who want a slower walk, elevated views and a boat ride. The large grounds mean that park transport, the one-way boat and walking all factor into the route.
A two-hour short visit
If time is limited, focus on Yandang Lake and nearby paths; you do not need to take the boat. Ride park transport to the lake, spend a short time by the water and on the nearby paths, then return to the South Gate using the day’s park transport arrangements.
Seasons, weather and who will enjoy it
Spring, especially March to May, and autumn, especially September to November, are generally better times to look for migrating birds. Species and numbers vary with the season and weather, so sightings are not guaranteed. In summer, the reeds, water and boardwalks are the main draw. The wetland suits visitors interested in nature, birdwatching or photography, and families who are happy to walk. Commercial services are limited and distances are long. Shorten outdoor stops in rain, strong winds or high temperatures, and follow any transport changes.
Build your day
A 3–4-hour wetland visit
Enter through the South Gate and first take park transport to Yandang Lake. Enjoy the lakeside views and boardwalks. If the boat is operating that day, board at Yandang Lake Pier and take the one-way boat to Bird-watching Pavilion Pier (观鸟亭码头), then walk to the Bird-watching Pavilion. This boat is a one-way transfer within the park, not a return boat to the South Gate. After visiting the pavilion, return to the South Gate using the day’s land transport or shuttle arrangements. Confirm the return pick-up point and last service time when you enter.
An approximately two-hour short route
From the South Gate, take park transport to Yandang Lake and spend a short time on the nearby paths, then take park transport back to the South Gate according to that day’s arrangements. This route does not depend on the boat. Confirm the return pick-up point and last service time before setting off.
Leave time for the conditions
On a clear afternoon, leave some time for photos from the Bird-watching Pavilion or a waterside path. Sunset views depend on the season, cloud cover and opening hours. In strong winds, rain or a temporary closure, follow the park’s arrangements. Do not make bird sightings, bird-release displays or other activities fixed stops in the schedule.
Get there
Driving, parking and getting around
Public transport around the wetland is limited, so driving to the South Gate Visitor Center is recommended. The drive from Beijing takes about 2.5 hours and from Tianjin about 1.5 hours; actual times depend on your starting point and traffic. Parking at the South Gate is free, but spaces are limited. Arrive early on holidays and do not park on the roadside or outside marked areas. Stops within the park are far apart; routes and stopping points for park transport depend on the day’s arrangements.
Know before you go
Tickets and transport on the day
Admission, the boat and park transport may be sold separately or as a bundle. Check the day’s ticket page for the price and inclusions, especially whether the boat, in-park transport and return transport are included or charged separately. Boat trips and park transport may change with weather and operations. After entering, confirm where to board for the return to the South Gate and when the last service runs, and leave enough time for the return journey.
Clothing, water and paths
Shade is limited, and boardwalk and dirt paths can be long, with uneven sections. Wear shoes with good grip and bring water. There are many mosquitoes, so long sleeves and trousers and insect repellent are useful. Food options are limited; consider bringing a snack. Help protect the wetland: do not chase or feed birds, and stay on open paths.
Activities and nearby stops
Bird-release displays, birdwatching activities and boat services depend on the season, weather and operations; check the day’s notices after arrival. Haiyan Salt Museum (海盐博物馆), Nanpaihe Fishing Port (南排河渔港) and Golden Beach (黄金海滩) are separate nearby destinations. Check their transport and opening arrangements separately; they are not part of the 3–4-hour wetland route.
