What you will see

Qingguo Alley Historic District is a free historic neighborhood open all day, with no admission or reservation required for its public streets. A quick walk along the main lane takes about one hour; allow 2–3 hours if you want to enter the Cultural Memory Hall, Tang Jingchuan Memorial Hall–Baguitang, Zhou Youguang Library and Banyuan.

The main entrance is the East Entrance archway near Heping North Road. Public streets and exhibition spaces follow different schedules: former residences, the Cultural Memory Hall and similar venues are generally open around 09:00–17:00, usually closed on Mondays, with possible holiday changes.

How to plan the visit

The district suits history and photography enthusiasts and visitors who enjoy a slow walk. The main lane is easiest to follow from east to west. First-time visitors can complete the public streets first and then choose the exhibition spaces that are open; with older adults, children or large luggage, allow for stone paving and walking distance.

Lanes, canal and historic spaces

The East Gate archway is a clear starting point. Chuzhu Bridge is good for canal reflections, Zhou Youguang Library has a quieter courtyard, Baguitang retains a Ming-dynasty nanmu hall, and Banyuan is a compact Ming-style garden.

Photographers can look for the carved library windows, Chuzhu Bridge and the reflection wall at the West Gate. An evening walk beside the canal may show some street lighting, but lighting and shop hours vary; the main focus should remain the neighborhood spaces and open exhibition venues.

Public streets and interior venues

Walking along the streets is free, making the district an easy city walking stop. The Cultural Memory Hall, Baguitang and other venues have their own open days; when they are closed, the main east–west lane, bridges and riverside spaces remain visitable.

Build your day

About one hour: quick route

Enter through the East Entrance archway, follow the main lane west, pass Chuzhu Bridge and Zhou Youguang Library, and leave through the West Gate. This works well after Tianning Temple and Hongmei Park as an afternoon or evening city walk.

If a public display is open, add it along the way. When time is short, complete the street route and leave the interior venues for another visit.

About 2–3 hours: highlights route

Start at the East Entrance archway, pass Chuzhu Bridge, enter Qingguo Alley Cultural Memory Hall, then continue to Tang Jingchuan Memorial Hall–Baguitang, Zhou Youguang Library and Banyuan before walking toward the West Gate. The route combines street scenery, exhibition spaces and garden architecture, and suits first-time visitors who want an introduction to local history.

On Mondays, the public streets can still be visited but the interior venues are usually closed. Keep the East Gate–West Gate route and add riverside photography and a short rest.

Connecting with other city sights

Qingguo Alley Historic District can be combined with Tianning Temple, Hongmei Park and Dongpo Garden in one day. Tianning Temple is about 1–2 km away and Hongmei Park about 1.5 km away; the best connection depends on weather, group mobility and exhibition hours.

Get there

Metro and buses

Take Metro Line 1 or Line 2 to Culture Palace Station. From Exit 5B, the walk to the East Entrance is about 5–8 minutes. Buses including B12 and 302 serve Qingguo Alley Station; the East Entrance archway is the starting point for the westbound route.

Parking and walking conditions

Drivers can navigate to the underground Qingguo Alley car park or the underground car park at Changzhou Workers' Cultural Palace, but spaces are limited on weekends and holidays. The district is mainly pedestrian, with many stone surfaces; flat, comfortable shoes are more suitable. Strollers and large luggage make movement more difficult.

The East Entrance and West Gate serve different directions. The East Entrance is the natural start of the main route, while the West Gate is convenient for continuing to Hongmei Park or returning to city roads.

Know before you go

Tickets, venues and opening days

The district is free, open all day and does not require a reservation. Former residences, the Cultural Memory Hall and similar venues are generally open around 09:00–17:00, usually closed on Mondays, with possible exceptions on public holidays. Put the exhibition dates first when deciding whether to visit them.

Exhibition venues and shops along the district keep their own hours, while the public streets can be visited independently. The riverside passages and bridges may be crowded on holidays.

Snacks and nearby plans

Common local snacks in and around Qingguo Alley include Qingguo Alley shrimp cakes, Changzhou sesame cakes (dama gao), crab roe xiaolongbao, plum blossom cakes and osmanthus red-bean dumplings. Taste, richness and waiting time vary from shop to shop.

Tianning Temple, Hongmei Park and Dongpo Garden are nearby options, but each has its own entrance and visit time. Qingguo Alley works well as an evening walk after the main exhibition venues.
