Wall platforms, beacon tower and river views
Hushan Great Wall was built in 1469, the fifth year of the Chenghua reign of the Ming dynasty. Its wall platforms and main beacon tower stand beside the Yalu River. From higher points, visitors can look over the riverbank and fields on the opposite side.
The later section includes “Heavenly Ladder,” a steep stairway approaching a 70-degree incline. Visitors with limited stamina, knee problems or young children may prefer to turn back at Wall Platform No. 4.
Where to visit “One Step Across”
“One Step Across” is the name of a viewpoint on the Chinese bank. Visitors can look at the river and take photos within the open area. It is separate from the Great Wall trail exit and return transport, and it is not a border crossing.
Build your day
Out-and-back to Wall Platform No. 4
Enter the attraction and follow the wall-platform trail to No. 4, then return by the same route. Allow about 1–1.5 hours for the walk. The first section is gentler. After returning to the entrance, walk to the nearby “One Step Across” stele or viewpoint.
This route avoids the Bangshan Platform exit on the back trail and does not require an extra shuttle. Visitors in a group with limited stamina can turn around at No. 4 to avoid the steep later section.
Back-mountain traverse and return to the entrance
The traverse starts at the entrance and follows the wall uphill to the steep steps and the main beacon tower at No. 3. Continue down the back-mountain trail past the suspension bridge and Water Curtain Cave to the Bangshan Platform exit. Allow about 2–3 hours. Check the day's route map for open sections and any detours before setting out.
The back-mountain route ends away from the entrance, so confirm the exit location and whether a return shuttle is operating before starting. If you cannot confirm how to get back, take the out-and-back route to Wall Platform No. 4 instead.

Steps, weather and border rules
The steep steps in the later section place more strain on your knees and stamina. Wear non-slip walking shoes and bring a jacket for windy conditions at the summit. There are few supply points on the mountain, so bring drinking water before entering.
The attraction is in a border area. Follow on-site rules: do not fly a drone, photograph military facilities or cross a security line. “One Step Across” is a viewpoint on the Chinese side.
Nearby stops
Dandong Guomen, Hekou Broken Bridge and Music Road are separate destinations, not stops inside Hushan Great Wall. Allow extra driving time to Hekou or central Dandong for a meal. Andong Old Street serves dishes such as yellow clams, menzi and fried chazi noodles; navigate to a specific restaurant by name.
