Plan at a glance
Village scope and relationship with the scenic area
Hongkeng Tulou Folk Culture Village is in Hongkeng Village, Hukeng Town, Yongding District, Longyan, Fujian. It refers to the same larger visitor area as the Tulou Prince Scenic Area. The village page is for the combination of buildings, paths, and facilities, while Zhencheng Building is the key single building. These three pages should not become three repeated routes.
The common adult ticket is CNY 90. If you combine it with the Tulou King Scenic Area around Gaobei, a common CNY 98 ticket is valid for 3 days. The visitor service centre is the main ticket-check point. The area is open all day, and 8:00–17:30 is the practical window for daytime sightseeing.
The visitor centre is about 1 kilometre from the core cluster, or a 15-minute walk, with a sightseeing vehicle available according to the day's arrangements. A complete village route usually takes 3–4 hours. With limited time, you can focus on Zhencheng, Rusheng, and one section of the village path.

A village route through several tulou
The main appeal of Hongkeng is the sequence of tulou along the village road. Zhencheng Building is useful for its bagua layout and Chinese-Western details, Kuiju Building for its hillside square spaces, Fuyu Building for its mansion-style courtyards, and Rusheng Building for a short look at a smaller round tulou.
Compared with a single-building page, the village page helps visitors understand the walking order, rest points, and facility distribution between buildings. Opening arrangements differ by building. Treat exteriors and publicly accessible areas as the stable plan, and do not include residents' floors in the default route.
Who this suits
Hongkeng suits first-time visitors learning about Yongding tulou, architecture photographers, and families who want a half-day village walk. It has more commercial facilities than the quieter clusters, which helps with supplies and rest but also means more shop activity and solicitation near the entrance.
If Zhencheng's structural details are your priority, use the Zhencheng page for the main stop. If you want to connect several buildings and understand the village route, choose the full Hongkeng route. There is no need to buy twice or repeat the same content for both purposes.
Build your day
About 2 hours: a quick route
Enter from the visitor centre, walk or take the sightseeing vehicle to Zhencheng Building, complete the main visit, and continue to Rusheng Building before returning on the original route. With limited time, do not shorten the Zhencheng and village-path stops just to include every building.
The sightseeing vehicle covers only some visitor-movement sections. Confirm whether it is operating and whether it costs extra that day. Ask for the return direction before setting out; do not treat the 1-kilometre transfer as a fixed service that is always free in both directions.
About 3–4 hours: a village route
For a first visit, use the sequence “visitor centre—Zhencheng Building—Qingcheng Building—Kuiju Building—Fuyu Building,” adding Rusheng or other public village areas according to the group's energy. This keeps Zhencheng as the core while showing the differences between square buildings, mansion-style buildings, and a small round tulou.
If a lighting or folk programme is scheduled in the afternoon or evening, decide whether to stay after the daytime route is complete. Performances, lighting, and resident explanations can change with the day's arrangements and should not be treated as fixed programme items.
Night-time and accommodation plans
If you stay near the scenic area, use the day for the village walk and return to permitted public areas in the evening to rest. Night-time building access, resident explanations, and lighting effects are not guaranteed by the ticket. Arrange the vehicle back to your accommodation in advance.
If you still need to transfer to Gaobei, Chuxi, or another mountain village, complete that transfer during daylight. Do not wait for an evening programme and then compress the last bus or a night drive.
Get there
Driving and parking
Drivers can navigate to “Tulou Prince Parking Lot” or “Hongkeng Tulou Folk Culture Village Parking Lot.” Parking commonly costs about CNY 10 per visit. After parking, go to the visitor service centre to confirm ticket checks, the shuttle, and the exit direction before starting the village walk.
Tuk-tuks or electric carts may be visible inside the area, but their operation, price, and coverage must be confirmed on site. Do not treat them as a fixed shuttle. Do not use a private roadside parking area where people solicit drivers.
High-speed rail, buses, and transfers
From Longyan or Yongding Station, take a tourist bus or scenic-area direct shuttle from the coach station. A common fare is about CNY 15–20 per person. You can also travel from the old Longyan Coach Station to the Tulou transport hub and transfer there. The visitor centre and core cluster are about 1 kilometre apart, or a 15-minute walk, with a sightseeing vehicle available according to the day's arrangements.
Directions for transferring to Gaobei with a combined ticket may be unclear and services may be limited. Without a private car, confirm the vehicle between the two areas in advance. A combined ticket does not automatically include free cross-area transport.
Know before you go
Tickets, building floors, and religious spaces
Hongkeng's adult ticket and Gaobei combined ticket cover different areas, and the core buildings may require a second ticket check. Upper floors at Zhencheng are usually strictly controlled during the day, and access to other buildings can also change. A ticket does not grant access to private rooms, upstairs corridors, or every interior space.
People may approach visitors inside religious spaces or other rooms and encourage spending. If a donation, incense purchase, or guiding fee is not clearly explained, ask what it covers before deciding. Do not accept a follow-on service simply because the first approach was described as free.
Paths, supplies, and quieter times
The village mainly uses cobbled paths, and mosquitoes are common in the mountains. Wear flat, non-slip shoes and carry repellent. There are many ground-floor shops, and prices may be high, so water and simple food can be prepared in advance.
Before 8:00 or after 16:00 is often more comfortable than midday for avoiding strong sun and tour-group peaks, but an empty site or fixed lighting effect is not guaranteed. In rain, on slippery stairs, or when the group is tired, shorten the village route and prioritise the return.
