Plan at a glance

Location and the North Gate

South Wudang Mountain (南武当山) is in Wudang Town, Longnan, Ganzhou. Navigate to the South Wudang Mountain Visitor Service Centre (南武当山游客服务中心), the North Gate. From the North Gate, walk about 300 metres to the trailhead; the South Gate is the exit side of the full route. Both gates have car parks, but the full route does not start and end at the same place.

Tickets and opening hours

Adult admission is about CNY 80, with a half-price ticket of about CNY 40. An A package costs about CNY 100 and usually includes admission, the glass attractions and the sightseeing bus; the all-in ticket costs about CNY 199 and also includes the sightseeing conveyor (“magic carpet,” 魔毯), Bubu Jingxin (步步惊心), a high-level challenge attraction, and the Flying Dragon Slide. Platform promotions may differ, so check the package contents and conditions for the day before buying.

The scenic area is open 08:00–17:00, with entry usually stopping after about 15:30. Driving from Ganzhou city takes about 2 hours, and the North Gate parking fee is about CNY 10 per visit. Confirm last entry, activity operation and parking arrangements before setting out.

How much time to allow

The full North Gate-in, South Gate-out route takes about 3–5 hours and includes cliff paths, glass attractions, Wudang Ancestral Temple, One-Line-Sky and the downhill activities. A shorter 2–3-hour route enters and exits at the North Gate and uses the magic-carpet conveyor in both directions. Even with the magic-carpet conveyor and slide, the paths, platforms and steps still require continuous walking.

Cliff paths and Danxia peaks

The cliffside walkway follows the mountain and opens onto Danxia peaks around Longnan. The U-shaped glass lookout projects out over the slope and frames the peaks with the path. Visitors who want to reduce the uphill climb can take the magic-carpet conveyor and save their energy for the ridge path and viewpoints.

One-Line-Sky and Wudang Ancestral Temple

One-Line-Sky is a narrow canyon passage on the downhill section, while Wudang Ancestral Temple is the historic-building stop on the full route. Tuntian Cave (吞天洞) can be viewed from its entrance, and Rainbow Steps (彩虹阶梯) are near the uphill entrance. Whether these points are open or on the current route may change according to signs and staff directions that day.

Who this works for

The full route suits visitors interested in Danxia landforms, suspended walkways and high viewpoints. People with a fear of heights, families with children or travellers with limited time can choose the short route and stay around the main cliff paths and viewing platforms. The glass path, Bubu Jingxin (步步惊心), a high-level challenge attraction, and the slide are optional activities; groups can decide separately according to height, comfort with heights and weather.

For a nearby Longnan enclosure-and-village route, see Guanxi New Enclosure Scenic Area.

Build your day

Full route: about 3–5 hours

Enter at the North Gate and walk about 300 metres to the trailhead, then choose to hike or take the magic-carpet conveyor uphill. Follow the cliff paths past the glass path, U-shaped glass lookout and Zhaixing Glass Lookout (摘星玻璃眺台), continue through Wudang Ancestral Temple and One-Line-Sky downhill, take the Flying Dragon Slide for a faster descent, and exit at the South Gate.

After exiting at the South Gate, take the scenic-area bus for about CNY 10 per person or walk about 2 kilometres back to the North Gate car park. Bus fares, frequency and the last departure may change. If your car is at the North Gate, confirm the return option at the South Gate and arrange the return before leaving if taxis are difficult to find.

Quick route: about 2–3 hours

Enter at the North Gate and take the magic-carpet conveyor uphill. Visit the main cliff paths, U-shaped glass lookout and other viewing platforms, then take the magic-carpet conveyor back to the North Gate on the route available that day. This version skips the South Gate exit, Flying Dragon Slide and One-Line-Sky, keeping parking and the return journey at the North Gate.

Choosing the optional activities

The magic-carpet conveyor reduces the uphill climb, while the Flying Dragon Slide shortens part of the descent. The glass path, glass sky bridge and other aerial thrill attractions are purchased separately. In rain, strong wind or a closure, only the walking route may remain open, so confirm access before buying a package.

Get there

Driving and public transport from Longnan

Driving from Ganzhou city takes about 2 hours. Use “South Wudang Mountain Visitor Service Centre” (南武当山游客服务中心), the North Gate, as the navigation target; the scenic area has a car park. From Longnan city, look for Tourist Line 1 or the yellow Longnan–Yangcun village bus (龙南-杨村); buses may run about every 20 minutes. Confirm the route, stops and last departure before leaving.

Returning from the South Gate

The full route ends at the South Gate. Depending on the day, take the village bus opposite the gate back to Longnan or use the scenic-area shuttle to the North Gate. The gates are about 2 kilometres apart, so walking back to the car park takes time; taxis around the South Gate may be unreliable, so arrange the return in advance.

Know before you go

Aerial thrill attractions, rain and footwear

The glass path, U-shaped lookout and cliff walkway may not suit visitors with a fear of heights. Rain makes the surfaces slippery and can reduce visibility, so aerial thrill attractions may change. Wear shoes with good grip, stay inside the open railings and keep away from exposed edges; the main paths still include many steps, and the magic-carpet conveyor does not replace walking on the mountain.

Time and costs

The scenic area generally opens 08:00–17:00, with entry stopping after about 15:30. For the full route, enter at the North Gate before last entry. Confirm admission, the magic-carpet conveyor, slide, glass activities and packages separately; the applicable conditions for a promotional ticket around CNY 38, the CNY 199 all-in ticket and other discounts should be checked against the ticket rules in effect that day.

Longnan connections and food

South Wudang Mountain and Guanxi New Enclosure are both in the Longnan area, but they are about 1 hour apart by road and are not walkable neighbouring stops. Near the mountain, consider Dalong Restaurant or Sanshi Home Cooking for stir-fried beef with lotus stems, pork with dried bamboo shoots, Hakka stuffed tofu and stir-fried pork. Opening hours and average spending vary.
