Plan at a glance

Location and entry

Guishan Scenic Area is about 20 kilometres from Heyuan city, with the main gate and Visitor Centre as the usual entrance. Public transport is inconvenient and taxis can be difficult to find after the visit, so self-driving, a chartered car or a pre-arranged return vehicle is the better choice.

The adult ticket costs about CNY 98 on site and about CNY 88 online. The glass bridge, cable car and other attractions may be sold separately or in packages, so check what is included; the area generally opens from 08:30 to 17:30.

Time and effort

The standard visit using the cable car, glass bridge and forest paths takes about 4–5 hours. Reaching Haohan Summit or adding longer mountain paths takes about 4–6 hours; the 15–17-kilometre Tiankeng Waterfalls loop from Gaoqiao Bridge takes 6–8 hours and is for experienced outdoor visitors who have confirmed the route conditions.

Choose your visit

Forest glass bridge and woodland paths

The standard Guishan experience includes the forest glass bridge, woodland boardwalks and forest viewpoints, suitable for visitors who want a mountain walk and valley scenery. The glass bridge and cable car usually require separate tickets or a combination ticket; the base admission does not automatically include every attraction.

Springs, waterfalls and streamside areas

Qingxin Waterfall and the mountain-spring stream area are another main part of Guishan, with short stays possible at permitted streamside sections in summer. The ground is wet and insects are common, so visitors interested in the water should bring non-slip shoes and insect repellent rather than prepare as if for a city park.

Haohan Summit and outdoor difficulty

Haohan Summit is about 1,056 metres above sea level, with views towards the wooded hills and water of Wanlv Lake. It suits hikers and visitors looking for more climbing; the Tiankeng Waterfalls area is a 15–17-kilometre deep outdoor experience with limited supplies and slippery conditions after rain, not a default choice for first-time visitors.

Build your day

The standard cool-forest visit

Enter through the Visitor Centre and decide, according to the day’s ticket, whether to take the cable car uphill before visiting the forest glass bridge, woodland paths, Qingxin Waterfall and the stream area. Allow about 4–5 hours for the full section; without the cable car, add the uphill walking time.

The streamside ground is usually wetter than an ordinary path, so leave time for changing shoes, resting and returning. Rafting and other water attractions may require a separate ticket and may not operate every day.

The summit viewpoint visit

You can walk or take the cable car uphill, visit Haohan Summit and the 360-degree viewpoint, then descend in the direction of the stream. Allow about 4–6 hours; the upper paths are exposed in summer, so take the main climb while you still have energy.

The Tiankeng Waterfalls loop

This route begins around Gaoqiao Bridge and passes Kuzhuping, Yingzui Rock, Dengkeng Waterfall and Tiankeng Waterfall before reaching the Wanlv Valley side along stream paths. It covers about 15–17 kilometres and takes 6–8 hours; consider it only when the route is open, the weather is stable and you have reliable companions, not as a casual unmarked waterfall or stream crossing.

Get there

Driving and parking

Navigate to “Guishan Scenic Area” and use the main gate; parking costs about CNY 10 per day. The Gaoqiao Bridge start area for the Tiankeng Waterfalls route has limited parking, so anyone attempting the outdoor loop must decide in advance where the vehicle will wait and how the group will return.

High-speed rail and taxis

From Heyuan East Railway Station, a taxi to Guishan takes about 40–50 minutes. Taxis are not easy to find after leaving the area and public transport is limited; without a car, use a chartered vehicle or arrange a pick-up rather than relying on a taxi after the hike.

Know before you go

Equipment and supplies

Wear non-slip stream shoes for water activities or streamside paths, and bring insect repellent for the forest. Supplies inside the area are limited, so bring water and snacks even for the standard visit; the Tiankeng Waterfalls loop has no reliable mid-route shops or toilets, so carry at least 1.5 litres of drinking water.

Rain makes the mountain paths and rocks much more slippery. First-time visitors should not attempt the deep loop immediately after rain, and should judge older rafting equipment and on-site service according to the actual conditions rather than assuming every attraction offers the same standard.

Tickets and the return journey

The base admission and the glass bridge, cable car and rafting products may be sold separately. A package is worthwhile only if it matches the route you intend to take; visitors interested in the forest and streams do not need to buy every attraction.

Guishan can be combined with Yequgou, Wanlv Lake or Wanlv Valley by car, but the entrances are spread out and cannot be linked on foot. Farm restaurants at the foot of the mountain are an option after the visit, but confirm opening times and any return-transport arrangements on the day.
