Plan at a glance

Location and entry

Jinghuayuan is within the Wanlv Lake area but has its own entrance and ticket. You do not need the main Wanlv Lake boat package to visit it; search for “Wanlv Lake · Jinghuayuan Scenic Area” in navigation, and use the parking area near the main gate.

The area generally opens from 08:30 to 17:30 and is best visited during the day. Online tickets normally need to be bought at least one hour in advance; buying one at the gate may mean waiting or paying the on-site price.

Walking and visit length

The shorter visit takes about 2–3 hours and uses the sightseeing vehicle for some of the approach before following easier lakeside paths. The high-viewpoint visit takes about 3.5 hours and includes many steps; a full walking option covers about 7–8 kilometres and suits visitors used to continuous walking rather than a casual lakeside stroll.

Choose your visit

The high lake view from Duyun Pavilion

Duyun Pavilion is on higher ground and looks over the islands and water of Wanlv Lake. Ningcui Valley, Hongyan Cave and the uphill paths form part of this experience, which suits photographers and nature lovers who value the viewpoint more than extra rest facilities.

Xianyuan Bridge, the lakeside beach and rest stops

Xianyuan Bridge, the lakeside beach and Tinghu Coffee make up the easier lakeside experience, suitable for photography, a short stop or families watching the water. You can avoid the longer climb here, but the sightseeing vehicle does not cover every hillside path, so families with strollers and older visitors should judge the walkable distance in advance.

Who it suits

Jinghuayuan suits nature lovers, families and photography visitors. The full walking option is about 7–8 kilometres and is for visitors who want more woodland and lakeside scenery; those looking for a lighter visit can stay with flatter paths and the areas served by the sightseeing vehicle.

Build your day

A short visit for families or tight schedules

After entering, take the sightseeing vehicle to the Nu'er Guo area, then walk to Xianyuan Bridge and the lakeside beach before leaving. The visit takes about 2–3 hours, and the vehicle costs about CNY 10 one way; it covers the lakeside road, while the uphill path from Ningcui Valley to Duyun Pavilion must be walked.

This option keeps the main lakeside views in the first part of the visit and limits the walking. Folk activities in the Nu'er Guo area depend on the day’s programme and should not be treated as a fixed show.

The high-viewpoint route

From the entrance, walk to Ningcui Valley and then uphill for about 30–40 minutes to Duyun Pavilion. Continue past Hongyan Cave to Nu'er Guo and return by sightseeing vehicle; the full visit takes about 3.5 hours and includes many steps, so wear secure non-slip shoes.

A slower walking visit

You can walk through Ningcui Valley, the botanical garden, Nu'er Guo, Xianyuan Bridge and the lakeside beach, then return according to your energy or walk out of the area. The lakeside paths look easy but cover a meaningful distance; older visitors should decide on the return option before tiring themselves out.

Get there

Driving

Driving is the most convenient option, and parking costs about CNY 10 per day. The entrance may become congested after 16:00 on public holidays, so arriving by about 08:30 gives you time to park and buy a ticket before walking.

High-speed rail, buses and the return trip

From Heyuan East Railway Station, a taxi to Jinghuayuan takes about 25–30 minutes. Buses 107 and 109 reach the area from Heyuan city, with the last bus around 17:30; if you finish late, do not rely on the bus as your only return option.

Taxis near Jinghuayuan can be hard to find at night. Without a car, arrange a return vehicle in advance or stay in Heyuan city rather than waiting outside the entrance after closing.

Know before you go

Tickets and sightseeing vehicles

The on-site ticket costs about CNY 40, while an online ticket bought at least one hour in advance costs about CNY 35. The advance-purchase condition affects entry time; buying online at the gate does not necessarily allow immediate entry, so buy the on-site ticket if you do not want to wait.

The sightseeing vehicle costs about CNY 10 one way and mainly serves the lakeside road. There is no vehicle on the path from Ningcui Valley to Duyun Pavilion, so a visit with the high viewpoint needs more time than a flat walking stop.

Weather, spending and crowd timing

The lakeside is sunny, and wind along the paths can add to the effort. Bring water, sun protection and non-slip shoes; the small shops may be expensive, so do not depend entirely on buying supplies inside.

Optional island products cost extra and are not part of the main walking experience. Guides, photography and framed-photo services at the entrance should be chosen only after you understand the price; a free souvenir does not require you to buy a later service.

Jinghuayuan works best as a separate stop from the other Wanlv Lake entrances, although it can be combined with Heyuan Dinosaur Museum, Taiping Ancient Street or a city restaurant on the same trip. Treating all of them as one entrance can lead to missed boat times or a difficult return.
