Location and tickets

Heyuan Dinosaur Museum is inside Guifeng Park on Binjiang Avenue, within the Heyuan Dinosaur Culture Park, next to Heyuan Museum. Adult admission is about CNY 30; students and visitors aged 60–69 pay about CNY 15, and children under 1.2 metres enter free. Advance reservations are usually not required, so you can buy a ticket on site or use an online group deal.

The usual hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–17:30, with last entry at 17:00. The museum normally closes on Mondays, except when holiday arrangements differ. The main exhibition takes about 1.5–2 hours; the basement interactive area needs extra time and a separate budget.

Choose your visit

The dinosaur-egg fossil wall

The museum’s signature display is a large dinosaur-egg fossil wall, with more than 20,000 eggs in the collection and a Guinness World Records certification. It works well for a family science visit and a first introduction to the museum; read the exhibition panels alongside the fossil display for context on how the fossils formed and were collected.

The Heyuan dragon skeleton and three fossil types

The Huang’s Heyuan dragon skeleton is one of Heyuan Dinosaur Museum’s important exhibits. The displays also bring together dinosaur eggs, bones and footprints, so dinosaur enthusiasts can combine the large skeletons and egg exhibits on the first floor with the specimen galleries on the second and third floors.

Indoor family activities

The basement Prehistoric Tribe area may include VR, simulated excavation and a 4D film, depending on the day. These activities suit families who want more interaction, but they are not part of the main museum admission; visitors who prefer a simple museum visit can complete the standard galleries without them.

Build your day

A 1.5–2 hour main-gallery visit

Start with the dinosaur-egg fossil wall, then continue to the Heyuan dragon skeleton and the Dinosaur Homeland gallery. Visit the ammonite gallery on the second floor and the insect exhibition on the third before leaving; following the gallery order keeps the main visit to about 1.5–2 hours.

Heyuan Dinosaur Museum and Heyuan Museum

Heyuan Dinosaur Museum and Heyuan Museum are next to each other and work well as one city-centre visit. Allow about 1.5 hours for Heyuan Dinosaur Museum, then walk to Guifeng Pagoda or Heyuan Museum; the two attractions have different tickets, closure days and themes, so use each full name when buying tickets or giving a taxi destination.

Adding the prehistoric activities

If the basement is open and the family wants to pay for the interactive activities, confirm the individual rules for VR, simulated excavation and the 4D film before buying. Deciding after seeing the main galleries makes it easier to control both time and spending.

Get there

City transport

A taxi from Heyuan East Railway Station to Heyuan Dinosaur Museum takes about 20–30 minutes. In the city, take a bus to Guifeng Park or use a shared e-bike; walking from Heyuan Museum is easy, but Heyuan Museum and Heyuan Dinosaur Museum still require separate entry procedures.

Driving and parking

There is free parking outside Heyuan Dinosaur Museum, but the number of spaces is limited, so arrive early on weekends. If the Heyuan Dinosaur Museum parking area is full, follow the local instructions and use the Heyuan Museum side before walking over; the route from the parking areas to Heyuan Dinosaur Museum includes an exposed section in the sun, so bring a hat or umbrella in summer.

Know before you go

Closure and last entry

Heyuan Dinosaur Museum normally closes on Mondays and stops entry at 17:00. Heyuan Dinosaur Museum and Heyuan Museum have similar weekly schedules, but their adjacency does not mean one attraction will remain open after the other closes.

Expectations and extra spending

Heyuan Dinosaur Museum is fairly compact, with its strongest displays concentrated in the dinosaur-egg wall and skeletons. Some sections, such as the ammonite gallery, are simpler, so treat the visit mainly as a family science stop; the basement activities cost extra and souvenirs do not need to be bought inside.

Nearby options include Heyuan Museum, Guifeng Pagoda and Taiping Ancient Street. Taiping Ancient Street and the riverside area have Hakka snacks, pork noodle soup and local eight-cut soup; parking can be limited at weekends, especially around dinner time.
