Reindeer culture in Genhe
Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe Scenic Area (敖鲁古雅使鹿部落景区) is at No. 7 Aoluguya Road in Genhe, about a 10-minute drive from town. Search for “敖鲁古雅使鹿部落” (Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe). The main features are reindeer, exhibits on Ewenki (鄂温克族) culture, and forest trails. You can see a performance first, then visit the reindeer enclosure and museum.
Admission, sightseeing bus, and show times
The reference adult admission price is about CNY 80–110, and the sightseeing bus about CNY 15. Some areas can also be reached on foot. Choose your visit
Watch the Aoluguya performance
Check the day’s performance poster after entering, then decide whether to visit the reindeer enclosure first or wait for the Aoluguya Cultural Show (《敖鲁古雅风情》). Common show times are around 09:10 and 15:00, with each show lasting about 15 minutes. Times can change, so check the poster to avoid missing the show.
Observe reindeer in the enclosure
A boardwalk leads to the reindeer enclosure, where you can observe the animals at close range. The park may sell moss baskets for feeding; offer only small amounts as directed by the keeper. Do not bring your own food, chase the animals, or touch their antlers, and do not crowd resting reindeer for photos.
Visit the museum and traditional dwellings
The Aoluguya Museum (敖鲁古雅博物馆) is free and covers the history of the reindeer-herding Ewenki people; it may close at midday, so check the notice at the entrance. The traditional village display includes chum tents and log houses. Stay within areas open to visitors as you walk around.
If you choose only one cultural activity, pick between the performance and the museum: the stage show presents Ewenki song and dance, while the museum traces the reindeer-herding Ewenki people’s history from hunting and migration to settled life. Neither replaces observing reindeer in the enclosure.
For a separate self-drive wetland and forest outing near Genhe, see Genheyuan National Wetland Park.
Build your day
Quick visit, about 2–3 hours
After entering, use the performance poster to plan around the Aoluguya Cultural Show. Then walk along the boardwalk to the reindeer enclosure, visit the free museum, and return to the exit. Reindeer interactions and leading a reindeer for photos may cost extra; you can continue through other areas if you skip them.
A relaxed half-day
After the 08:30 opening, visit the reindeer enclosure first, then see a performance at the day’s scheduled time and take your time around the chum tents, log houses, and museum. If you want the 09:10 show, visit the enclosure afterward. The museum may close at midday, so check its hours before choosing the order.
Get there
Drive and park
Navigate to “敖鲁古雅使鹿部落” (Aoluguya Reindeer Tribe) or No. 7 Aoluguya Road; the drive from Genhe takes about 10 minutes. There is a large free parking lot. After parking, walk or buy a sightseeing-bus ticket to reach the different areas.
Taxi or bus
A taxi from the scenic area back to Genhe costs about CNY 15. You can arrange the return with your driver when you enter. A local bus passes through Genhe, but service is limited; check that day’s departure time and arrange a taxi or hired car if uncertain.
Know before you go
Choose interactions as you like
A moss basket is about CNY 20 and reindeer photography about CNY 100 as reference prices; both cost extra. Check current prices and availability on site. The enclosure can be busy in peak season, and the animals may need a rest. Keep your distance as staff instruct; do not force-feed or ask the animals to pose.
Midday break and return transport
The museum may close from 12:00 to 14:00, and performance times follow the day’s poster. Genhe buses are infrequent, so plan around the last service. For a more reliable pickup, arrange a taxi or hired car in advance.
Food in the park and meals in town
Food options in the park may include reindeer-milk leiba bread and venison burgers; check that day’s menu and opening status. Back in Genhe, Yongchang Copper Pot Hot Pot and Shepherd’s Whole Lamb House are options. Confirm their locations, hours, and expected waits if you plan to eat there.
Stay within the official scenic area
Private hunting-family sites and reindeer camps usually require separate reservations, permission, or payment. To see reindeer, visit the official enclosure inside the scenic area and follow staff rules; do not enter private forest or closed areas just because they appear quiet.
