Plan at a glance
Riverside town and Russian-style district
Shiwei (室韦) is in northwestern Ergun, along the Ergun River (额尔古纳河). Most town visits center on the Russian-style district (俄式风情街), Unity Square (团结广场), and the public river-viewing platform. The district and public platform are free to visit; the Shiwei Port Scenic Area charges separately, and its ticket covers the attraction only, not permission to cross the border.
Tickets and opening hours
The Russian-style district and public river-viewing platform do not require tickets. The Shiwei Port Scenic Area is ticketed separately; reference prices are about CNY 20 for admission and CNY 5 for the sightseeing bus. Reference visiting hours are 08:00–11:30 and 14:00–17:30. Check current ticket information for discounts, reservation requirements, and which areas are open that day.

Choose your visit
Russian-style district and Unity Square
Colorful log buildings in the Russian-style district and the horse sculpture at Unity Square are in the town center and easy to visit on foot. Keep photos to the district and public viewing areas; do not take unopened trails.
Walk from the district to Unity Square, then follow public roads to the riverside viewpoint. Do not drive into residential courtyards for photos.
See the Ergun River from Shenxianpo (神仙坡)
The river-viewing platform is also known as Shenxianpo (神仙坡). From the public viewpoint, you can look down on the Ergun River and the Russian village across it. Evening light along the river can be soft; stay within the open platform and do not cross fences or enter border-control facilities.
The port attraction is optional
The Shiwei Port Scenic Area charges separate admission and sightseeing-bus fees and can be entered only during its opening hours. If you mainly want the town district and river views, you can skip it. If you plan to visit, first confirm the open areas, bus service, and current price.
Cycle on public roads in town
The town is small enough to explore on foot, or you can rent a bicycle for a ride around town. Confirm the price, hours, and return point before renting. Stay on public roads and open streets; do not ride onto border paths, pasture, or private land.
Build your day
Quick town walk, about 1–2 hours
Park at a public lot in town, walk through the Russian-style district and Unity Square, then continue to the Shenxianpo river viewpoint for views of the river and the village across it. Return to the town center. The walk takes about 1–2 hours and stays within public streets and viewing areas.
Half-day visit with the port as an option
Start with the district, Unity Square, and the river platform. If the port attraction is open that day, consider its reference ticket windows of 08:00–11:30 or 14:00–17:30, allowing time for the return bus ride within your half-day plan. In the evening, return to the public viewpoint for riverside light, then eat or stay overnight in town.
Get there
Drive to town on G331
Shiwei can be one stop on a G331 border-highway trip. Navigate to “室韦苏木人民政府停车场” (Shiwei Sumu People’s Government Parking Lot). It has free spaces and a 24-hour restroom; park there and walk around the town center. Driving times from Hailar or Ergun vary with route, road conditions, and stops, so plan using the full route for that day rather than a single fixed estimate.
Bus from Ergun
Buses run between Ergun and Shiwei, but service is limited. Confirm the departure stop, last return bus, and whether you need to buy a ticket in advance. If you cannot confirm a round trip, do not plan around an informal roadside stop.
Know before you go
Check the port attraction’s midday break
Reference visiting hours for the port attraction are 08:00–11:30 and 14:00–17:30, with no service listed from 11:30 to 14:00. Confirm the day’s hours, bus arrangements, and exit point before buying a ticket. The ticket is for the attraction only. Leave at the stated time; do not look for an exit along port facilities or in border-control areas.
Foreign passport holders should check ticket requirements
Travelers with a foreign passport should confirm that the selected ticket supports passport purchase and on-site validation. An attraction ticket does not grant permission to cross the border.
Check lodging, food, and shopping details
Log-cabin lodging is usually more expensive in peak season, and soundproofing and facilities vary by property. When booking, confirm the bathroom, heating, cancellation terms, and check-in time. In town, you can ask about local ice-cooked lamb, People’s Great Canteen, or Yuanwei Xiang Barbecue. Confirm hours and locations before going, and ask the price before buying Russian goods.
Follow border-area rules
Stay in public streets, parking areas, and the river-viewing platform. Do not cross wire fences, enter border-control areas, or treat homes and pastures as viewpoints. Follow posted photography restrictions and do not use unverified “free hillside” photo spots.
