Visit the village and exhibition hall separately

抓吉赫哲族村 (Zhuaji Hezhen Village) is in 乌苏镇 (Wusu Town), Fuyuan. Its public areas are free to visit, and the village entrance arch is the main landmark for navigation. The 赫哲族民俗展馆 (Hezhen Folk Exhibition Hall) charges a separate ticket, listed at CNY 20. Its hours are 09:00–11:30 and 13:30–16:00. The village itself is open beyond the hall's operating hours.

A half-day visit

The drive from downtown Fuyuan takes about 40 minutes. You can include the village on the same eastern route as East Pole Square or Heixiazi Island. Allow about 2–3 hours for the village, post office, and a meal. Arrange your vehicle and return trip before setting out; local transport connections are limited.

Choose your visit

Fish-skin culture in the folk exhibition hall

The hall displays fish-skin clothing and accessories, fish-skin paintings, scenes of fishing and hunting life, traditional gear, and everyday objects. It offers an indoor introduction to Hezhen fish-skin craft and traditional life. The size of the exhibition and which objects are on view depend on what is open that day.

The village arch and China's easternmost post office

The entrance arch bears the Chinese inscription “华夏东极第一村,” roughly meaning “China's easternmost village.” The village is also home to 中国最东邮局 (China's easternmost post office), where you can mail a postcard and ask about a commemorative postmark. The post office and exhibition hall operate separately; one being open does not mean the other is open.

Fish meals and a living community

Local restaurants serve fish feasts and grilled fish, as well as fish-roe rice and “one fish, three ways.” If two people are ordering, ask whether smaller portions are available. Shengyu (刹生鱼) is a raw-fish dish; choose cooked fish if you avoid raw food or have dietary restrictions. Residents live in the village, so stay on public roads and in the exhibition hall or businesses open to visitors.

Build your day

A 30-minute short visit

Stop at the village arch when you arrive, then visit the folk exhibition hall if it is open. Focus on the fish-skin clothing and paintings and the fishing and hunting tools. If the hall is closed, make a short stop in the public area; do not enter residential yards or substitute activities that are not included with the hall ticket.

A two-to-three-hour visit with a meal

Have a meal at a village restaurant first, then allow about 1–1.5 hours for the exhibition hall. If it is open, visit the post office afterward to mail a postcard. The hall is open until 16:00 in the afternoon; arrive early and allow enough time for your visit. The village stays accessible beyond the hall's hours.

Continue along Fuyuan's eastern route

You can combine Zhuaji Village with East Pole Square and Heixiazi Island, but confirm the distances and stop times with your hired driver. If the island visit takes most of the day, make the village a separate half-day stop rather than cutting into your time at the hall or the return trip.

Get there

Driving, hired car, and tour shuttle

Navigate to “抓吉赫哲族村 (Zhuaji Hezhen Village).” The drive from downtown Fuyuan takes about 40 minutes. Ask whether the tour shuttle to 黑瞎子岛旅游区 (Heixiazi Island Tourist Area) stops at 抓吉村 (Zhuaji Village); the listed fare is about CNY 30 per person. You can also drive or hire a car. Confirm both the outbound and return arrangements before setting out. If taking a taxi into the village, agree on a pickup time for the return to town.

Parking and walking in the village

There are parking areas at the village entrance and near some stops; availability depends on the day. The arch, hall, post office, and restaurants are at different points in the village. Park as directed and walk on open roads without cutting through residential yards.

Know before you go

Hall hours and return transport

The folk exhibition hall is open 09:00–11:30 and 13:30–16:00, with a lunch break. Confirm that it is open on the day. The tour shuttle and hired cars do not have a dependable fixed schedule, so agree on your return ride with the driver or operator.

Photography, food, and the border area

Ask residents, craftspeople, or families before photographing them, and do not enter private spaces. The village is near the border; do not use drones or cross barriers. Raw fish at a fish feast may not suit every traveler; order grilled fish or another cooked dish if preferred.
