A short route or a fuller garden visit
For a shorter visit, allow around 1.5 hours: enter through the main archway, then visit Panli Lou, Yupei Villa, the Wisteria Pavilion and Letian Lou.
For a first visit, allow about two hours and add the exhibition hall, Panwen Lou, the artificial canal and the Four-Pavilion Bridge. If you visit Zili Village in the morning, have lunch in Tangkou Town and come to Liyuan in the afternoon.

From house interiors to garden views
Begin at the exhibition hall for background on the owner and Kaiping’s overseas Chinese history, then enter Panli Lou to see the Chinese-Western details of the residence. Continue to Panwen Lou and Yupei Villa to compare their different exteriors and layouts.
In the second half, walk through the main garden, along the artificial canal and past the Four-Pavilion Bridge, then climb Letian Lou to finish with a wider view of the estate.
Get there
Rail, buses and site shuttles
Drive to “Liyuan Ticket Office” or “Kaiping Diaolou Cultural Tourism Area”. From Kaiping South Railway Station, a taxi ride normally takes around 20–30 minutes.
From Kaiping city centre, take bus 17 to Liyuan Road Junction, or use bus 602 and change to bus 617. Shuttle buses run between Zili Village, Majianglong and Liyuan at intervals of around 15–60 minutes, so leave time for waiting.

Practical details for the garden
The grounds are not especially large, but several staircases are steep, so flat shoes are the practical choice. Mosquitoes can be common around the greenery and water, so bring repellent. Food options inside are limited; carry water or plan meals in nearby towns and villages.
Conditions at individual photo spots can change with the season, so focus on core features such as Panli Lou, Yupei Villa, the canal and Letian Lou rather than detouring for a single photo installation.
