Choose your visit

A compact stop or part of a two-day pass

For a short visit, walk from the visitor centre along the bamboo-lined stone path to Tianlu Lou, then climb Junlu before returning. Allow 1.5–2 hours.

To compare different sides of Kaiping’s diaolou heritage, include Majianglong with Zili Village, Liyuan and Jinjiangli on a two-day ticket. Photographers and nature lovers should visit in the early morning or late afternoon.

Build your day

Tianlu Lou, Junlu and Linlu

Start at the visitor centre and follow the stone path into the bamboo grove. See the distinctive round exterior of Tianlu Lou first, then continue to Junlu. Climb Junlu in the first half of the visit, when you are fresher, then visit Linlu to see more of the former overseas Chinese living spaces.

If you are visiting other sites on the same day, schedule Majianglong for later in the afternoon, when the bamboo offers shade and the light is softer.

Get there

Best reached by car or taxi

Driving is the most convenient way to reach the site; navigate to “Majianglong Diaolou Cluster Scenic Area”. From Kaiping South Railway Station, a taxi ride normally takes around 20–30 minutes.

Bus 613 stops at Majianglong Road Junction, but the site is still some distance away and requires a walk or short ride. Free shuttles link Zili Village, Liyuan and Majianglong, so leave extra time for waiting.

Know before you go

Shoes, insects and pacing

The route includes bamboo paths, stone paving and village lanes. Wear comfortable shoes with good grip, and take care on narrow tower staircases. Mosquitoes are common around the bamboo and village environment, so bring repellent.

There are very few food options inside the site, so carry water and small snacks. The appeal here is the relationship between the village, bamboo and towers, so there is no need to rush through every building.
