Half day or a full Kaiping route
For a short visit, allow half a day. Start at the visitor centre, walk through the rice-field boardwalk, visit Mingshi Lou, then continue to Yinong Lu before leaving. This takes around 2–3 hours.
First-time visitors to Kaiping can use Zili Village as the morning stop in a full-day route with Liyuan, Majianglong or Jinjiangli. Travellers interested in architecture and overseas Chinese history will get more from a guided or audio-led visit.

Boardwalk, Mingshi Lou and the village
From the visitor centre, begin with the rice-field boardwalk while your energy is fresh and the village-wide views are open. Continue to Mingshi Lou, one of the site’s signature buildings, and climb it for views over the fields and towers.
Afterwards, visit nearby Yinong Lu, then choose Yeshen Julu or Yunhuan Lou if time allows. If you are continuing to Liyuan or Majianglong, leave before midday and have lunch in Tangkou Town before moving on.

Driving, rail and local buses
Driving is the easiest option; navigate to “Kaiping Zili Village Diaolou Cluster Visitor Centre”. From Kaiping South Railway Station, a taxi ride normally takes around 20–30 minutes.
By public transport, take bus 602 from Kaiping city centre to Jinqiao City, then change to bus 617 and get off at Zili Village Road Junction or Shangtang Station. Shuttle buses connect Zili Village, Liyuan and Majianglong; confirm the day’s timetable at the visitor centre.
Know before you go
Walking, timing and village etiquette
Staircases inside the towers can be narrow and steep, so wear flat shoes with good grip. Food options inside the site are limited; bring water and light snacks, and plan a proper meal in Tangkou Town.
Weekdays are usually easier for avoiding crowds. Morning and late-afternoon light work best for photographs. Residents still live in the village, so enter only buildings open to visitors and avoid disturbing private homes.
