Location, entrance, and admission
Shandong Art Museum is at 11777 Jingshi Road, next to Shandong Museum and across the road from MixC. The west gate is the individual-visitor entrance. Admission is free, but visitors normally register by scanning their own ID card at the gate; if you do not have an ID card, follow the QR registration process at the entrance.
Opening and exhibition dates
The museum is open 09:00–17:00 Tuesday–Sunday, with last entry at 16:30, and closed on Mondays. Allow 1–1.5 hours for a quick visit or 2–3 hours for the main galleries and architecture. “The Migration of Images” (图像的迁徙) runs through 30 August 2026, so confirm the date of your visit.

“A Century in Paintings” and Gu Liming galleries
Gallery D1 on the fourth floor presents “A Century in Paintings,” a collection-based exhibition on revolutionary-era themes and modern Shandong art. Galleries A1 and B1–B3 on the second floor present “The Migration of Images” (图像的迁徙), which remains a current highlight through 30 August 2026; after that date, use the museum’s then-current exhibition list.
Architecture and the atrium
The building uses strong geometric forms, while the atrium and spiral staircase are good for lines, light, and shadow. Weekday mornings from 09:00–11:00 are usually quieter; photographers can start in the atrium before entering the galleries. Families interested in children’s exhibitions should check which show is running on the day.
Build your day
1–1.5-hour short route
Enter through the west gate and go to Gallery D1 on the fourth floor for “A Century in Paintings.” Choose the second-floor galleries according to the exhibitions open that day, then return to the first floor and leave. This order covers the main exhibition and architecture in a short visit.
2–3-hour full route
From the west gate, start at Gallery D1 on the fourth floor, then work down through the current third-floor exhibitions and second-floor solo exhibitions before returning to the first floor for a rest or the creative shop. “The Migration of Images” (图像的迁徙) is available through 30 August 2026; after that, follow the museum’s current exhibition programme.
Get there
Arrival and local transport
The west gate is the individual-visitor entrance. Shandong Museum is about a 2–3-minute walk away, and MixC is across the road. The art museum car park is free but small; the Shandong Museum car park is listed at about CNY 2 per hour, and MixC at about CNY 6 per hour. Public transport or early parking is better on weekends.
The five-floor building is connected by lifts and escalators. If visiting both museums on one day, note that each closes on Mondays and each has its own last-entry time.

Practical considerations
Free museum admission does not mean every exhibition runs permanently; temporary exhibitions follow their own dates. Stamps in the stamping area may be free or paid, so check the labels before buying a stamp book. The first-floor café may serve slowly, so MixC is a more practical lunch option.
The museum has five floors, and flat, comfortable shoes help. Follow the on-site photography rules; the atrium and spiral staircase are better for architectural photos, and flash should be off inside the galleries.
