Location, entrance, and reservation
Shandong Museum is at 11899 Jingshi Road, next to Shandong Art Museum. Individual visitors enter through the north gate. Admission is free, but you must make a real-name reservation through the Shandong Museum WeChat account; slots open at 00:00 up to 7 days ahead, and you enter by scanning your own ID card.
Opening and time needed
Normal hours are 09:00–17:00 Tuesday–Sunday, with last entry at 16:00; in July and August, extended days may run until 19:00 with last entry at 18:00. The museum closes on Mondays. Allow about 1 hour for the priority galleries or at least 3–4 hours for a fuller visit; the galleries are large, so wear comfortable shoes.

The “New Things in Haidai” history exhibition
Galleries 6–9 on the second floor follow Shandong’s history from prehistoric times through the Shang and Zhou, Qin and Han, and Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing periods. You can choose highlights such as the red pottery animal-shaped vessel, eggshell black-pottery goblet, Ya Chou battle axe, Song Gui vessel, large jade bi disk from Lu, Yinqueshan bamboo slips, and paintings by Zheng Banqiao.
Treasures of Lu, animals, and minerals
Gallery 5 on the first floor presents the Treasures of Lu exhibition, including the nine-tassel crown of the Ming Lu King. Galleries 18 and 19 on the third floor show African wildlife and suit families, while Gallery 21’s mineral collection works well as a short stop. The entrance dome takes the large jade bi disk from Lu as its design reference and is worth adding for architectural photography.
Build your day
1-hour priority route
After entering through the north gate, take the escalator on the right side of the lobby to the second floor and visit Galleries 6, 7, 8, and 9 in order. Then go down to Gallery 5 on the first floor. This route prioritizes the history line and Treasures of Lu and suits visitors coming from Jinan East Station or another part of the city with limited time.
3–4-hour full route
Start on the first floor with Gallery 1’s Buddhist sculpture and Gallery 2’s Han-dynasty pictorial art, then visit Galleries 6–9 on the second floor. Finish by choosing the wildlife or mineral galleries on the third floor. The distances between galleries are significant; the second-floor rest area and water bar are useful points for a break.
Exhibits and photography
Important objects may move because of touring exhibitions or gallery changes, so use the displays available on the day as your reference. The lobby dome and second-floor ceramics galleries work well for architecture and still-life photos; turn off flash when photographing objects and follow the gallery’s photography signs.
Get there
Arrival and local transport
Take Jinan Metro Line 3 or Line 4 to Shandong Museum Station and walk from Exit B. Buses K115, K119, and K139 stop at Shandong Museum Station. The museum has parking, but spaces are limited during holidays, so public transport is more reliable.
The north gate is the individual-visitor entrance. After your reservation is confirmed, enter through the north gate with the same ID card. Shandong Art Museum is next door and can be visited on the same day, but the two museums have separate reservations and entry procedures.

Practical considerations
Reservation slots open at 00:00 each day, and busy seasons and holidays require preparation up to 7 days ahead. Selfie sticks, lighters, and similar items cannot be brought inside. An audio guide is listed at CNY 20–30; the WeChat audio guide depends on the service available that day.
Galleries or objects may change temporarily, and entry stops one hour before the normal closing time. Food options inside are limited; you can bring a water bottle for the rest area and plan lunch at nearby MixC.
