Entrance, ticket and opening period
Dongyang Lu Residence is at 2 Luzhai Street in Dongyang, Jinhua, Zhejiang. The usual entrance is the Shide Gate Archway; walk inward from the archway to reach the visiting area. The reference adult ticket is CNY 65. Students and visitors aged 60–70 may qualify for concessions, while visitors over 70 and military personnel may enter free with the relevant documents. Follow the ticket rules on the day.
Reference opening hours are 08:30–17:00, with last entry at 16:30. Lu Residence is a historic residential compound, and indoor halls, exhibitions and guiding services may have different open areas. After buying a ticket, follow the on-site route.
How much time to allow
The main courtyards take about 1.5–2 hours. Allow 3–4 hours if you want to look closely at the woodcarving, archways and streamside scenery. The site suits visitors interested in historic buildings, woodcarving and local history, as well as families who want a quiet walk in central Dongyang.
Ground surfaces may be uneven and some areas require stairs. With older adults, young children or a stroller, confirm the open route before deciding whether to walk through the full compound.

Suyong Hall, archways and woodcarving details
Suyong Hall is the main courtyard in Lu Residence and follows a central axis. It is a good place to observe halls, courtyards, timber structures and decorative details. The Fengji Shijia, Dafangbo and Jingbiao Zhenjie stone archways lie along the main walking route and make sense when viewed together with the residential compound.
Woodcarving appears in architectural elements such as brackets, carved supports and horizontal beams. Slow down to look at the patterns and structure. The regular display of the Pearl Lantern may be a replica; the original may appear only during specific festival arrangements, so confirm whether it is on display that day.
Who it suits
Visitors who enjoy historic residences, woodcraft, historic architecture and traditional-costume photography will find clear priorities here. Families can treat the compound as an unhurried architectural walk, beginning with the public courtyards and deciding whether to continue according to the children’s energy.
Indoor halls, resident-use areas and temporary exhibitions may have different management boundaries. Follow photography notices, do not enter closed rooms, and do not block the movement of other visitors or residents to find a camera angle.
Build your day
A 1.5–2 hour main-courtyard route
Enter through the Shide Gate Archway and begin at Suyong Hall to see the main halls and woodcarving. Then move past the three stone archways and return through Dongyin Hall and the Yaxi area. The direction is clear and suits first-time visitors or anyone with limited time.
If some halls are closed, continue through the open areas instead of waiting at a door for an uncertain reopening time. Leave through the confirmed exit and include the walk from the parking area to the entrance in your return plan.
A slower 3–4 hour route
With more time, stay longer at Suyong Hall to observe the proportions of the courtyards, woodcarving and archways, then return slowly along the Yaxi side. Afternoon light may be softer, but crowds and weather vary each day, so treat the photography timing only as a suggestion.
Lu Residence and China Woodcarving Museum are two separate visiting options. If you plan to see both on the same day, confirm their addresses, opening hours and transfer method separately. Their tickets and guiding arrangements apply independently.
Connecting with other Dongyang stops
If you also plan to visit the Li Residence historic buildings or China Woodcarving Museum, check each site’s opening time before deciding the order. After Lu Residence, arrange a meal and the vehicle before moving on rather than repeatedly crossing between historic compounds.
Get there
High-speed rail, light rail and city transport
From Jinhua Station, take light rail to Renmin Road Station, then continue by taxi or ride-hailing car. Set the destination as “Shide Gate Archway”, the main direction into Lu Residence. Searching only for Luzhai Street may send the car to the commercial-road side of the district.
If you are coming from Hengdian, confirm the drop-off point in central Dongyang again. Lu Residence is not a park inside Hengdian’s film and television complex, so calculate the road and parking time separately.
Driving and parking
Drivers can navigate to the underground car park near Zhonghe Road, then walk to Shide Gate Archway. Ground parking and roads around the entrance may be crowded during holidays, so note the vehicle position and walking direction after parking.
If anyone in your group cannot walk far through the city, confirm the drop-off position before leaving. Collect the car from a managed parking area and then continue to the next stop.
Know before you go
Historic residence and access boundaries
Some halls in Lu Residence may serve different exhibition, ceremonial or resident-use purposes, and the accessible range depends on the day. A ticket grants visiting access to the site; it does not mean that every room, floor or interior space is open.
Keep the visit quiet and respectful. Do not touch architectural elements, move displays or enter resident-use areas for a photograph. Follow staff instructions when the route needs to change.
Shoes, weather and guiding
Courtyard surfaces, stairs and streamside paths may be uneven. Wear flat shoes with good grip. Stone surfaces become more slippery after rain; with older adults or children, shorten the route and prioritise Suyong Hall and the main archways.
Electronic guides and staff guiding services may vary by day. Ask about the service scope before arranging a guide, and follow the day’s arrangements for temporary tours or special exhibitions.
