Plan at a glance
Entrance, ticket and village area
Zhuge Bagua Village is in Zhuge Town, Lanxi, Jinhua, Zhejiang. The usual navigation destination is “Zhuge Bagua Village Scenic Area”. The visitor centre is about 2 km from the historic village core; you can walk or use a scenic shuttle according to the day’s arrangement.
The reference adult ticket is CNY 90. The main ancestral halls and exhibition buildings require a ticket through the official entrance and a second check inside. Reference summer hours are 07:30–17:00 and winter hours are 08:00–16:30. The core attractions usually stop admitting visitors at around 16:30.
How much time to allow
A quick visit takes about 1.5–2 hours. Allow 3–4 hours if you want to see the main ancestral halls, Tianyi Hall and the lanes. Residents still live in the village, so use public lanes and clearly open buildings rather than entering private homes to find a photo angle.
The village suits visitors interested in historic buildings, Zhuge culture, photography and family history visits. The stone lanes are uneven, and strollers and high heels are inconvenient. Choose a route based on the walking ability of your group.

Bell Pond, Dagu Hall and the Prime Minister’s Ancestral Hall
Bell Pond is at the centre of the village layout and is a useful starting point for understanding the lanes and the relationship between water and land. Dagu Hall, the Prime Minister’s Ancestral Hall and other public buildings retain ancestral-hall structures, woodcarving and historic displays. The exact open areas follow the day’s ticket checks and on-site notices.
Tianyi Hall is on higher ground and provides views over the tiled roofs and parts of the village layout, but reaching it takes extra energy. Photographers can treat Bell Pond, the Shangtang waterfront and the higher viewpoints as separate sections rather than repeatedly searching through complex lanes.
Who it suits
Visitors who enjoy villages, clan architecture and slow walking can place the main ancestral halls and public lanes on one route. Families can start with Bell Pond and Dagu Hall, then decide whether to continue according to the children’s attention span.
The lanes are easy to lose your way in, and navigation is less useful in narrow alleys. Stay together, and return to the main route when you reach private doorways, resident areas or closed buildings.
Build your day
A 1.5–2 hour highlights route
Enter from the visitor centre or main entrance, go first to Bell Pond, then visit Dagu Hall and the Prime Minister’s Ancestral Hall before returning along Shangtang Old Street. The priorities are clear, making this suitable for first-time visitors or anyone transferring to another Lanxi attraction later that day.
The main ancestral halls require a ticket check, and you should leave through the official exit. If time is limited, remove unnamed lanes and high viewpoints while keeping Bell Pond and the main public buildings.
A complete 3–4 hour route
Build on the highlights route by adding Tianyi Hall and walking along the eight main lanes to observe the Ming and Qing buildings. Before entering the higher sections, consider stamina and weather. The stone paths become more slippery after rain, so slow down.
The village lanes and ticketed buildings have different access boundaries. To visit an ancestral hall, exhibition or interior courtyard, follow the ticket and on-site directions. Do not use a side lane to go around the ticket check.
An evening walk in public areas
In the evening, walk around the open public lanes and Bell Pond, focusing on the water, street lights and exterior views of the village. The main ancestral halls and exhibition buildings stop admitting visitors earlier, so complete a full ticketed visit during the day.
Night customs, lighting and shop hours change with holidays, weather and operations. Leave through a confirmed exit after the activity and arrange the return vehicle in advance.
Get there
Public transport
First reach Lanxi Coach Station, then take Bus 302 to Shangxu. From there, walk or transfer to another local vehicle to reach the scenic area. The visitor centre is about 2 km from the village core, so include that movement when travelling with children or older adults.
Bus frequency and the return connection affect the final leaving time. If you are also visiting Lanxi Underground River or the Youbu area, confirm the next vehicle first and then decide how long to stay in the village.
Driving and parking
Navigate to Zhuge Bagua Village Scenic Area or a parking area near Zhuge Middle School. Main parking can be tight during holidays. Confirm the vehicle position and return direction before entering the village.
The lanes are narrow and residents use them, so a car cannot replace the walking route. Park and enter along public roads rather than driving into residential lanes to find an unconfirmed entrance.
Know before you go
Tickets and public lanes
Public lanes and ticketed ancestral halls and exhibition buildings have different management areas. If you want to see the main interiors, buy a ticket through the official entrance. Whether public areas remain open at night and which buildings can still be entered depend on the day’s on-site information.
Do not plan a full visit around stories of “free entry” or side lanes. Avoiding the ticket check does not provide access to interiors that require a second check and may also disturb residents or the site’s order.
Surfaces, weather and direction
The stone lanes are uneven and become slippery after rain. Wear flat shoes with good grip. With children or older adults, stay on the main lanes; return to the main route when you reach an unnamed alley or private courtyard.
Food and shop hours in the village change. Decide whether to eat according to the day’s route. If leaving in the evening, confirm the vehicle and meeting point in advance and do not split up in unfamiliar lanes while looking for an exit.
