Maolan Karst Forest

Decide first whether Maolan fits your travel style

Maolan is not an easy sightseeing-bus route like Xiaoqikong. It is a large nature reserve with spread-out sites, more natural trails, forest sections, caves, streams, and quieter scenery. If you only want easy blue water and waterfalls, Xiaoqikong is the better choice.

Choose one route before you arrive

Maolan works best when you choose a route in advance. Qinglong Pool and Qinglong Waterfall are easier options. Stone Forest, viewpoints, and peak-cluster routes are better for forest and karst scenery. Funnel Forest and cave routes feel more adventurous and need more preparation. For a first visit, choose one main route instead of trying to cover everything in one day.

Solve transport before the visit

Sites inside Maolan are spread out, and public transport is not as convenient as Xiaoqikong. Self-driving or hiring a car is the safest plan. If you are coming from Libo Station or Libo County, arrange both the ride in and the return ride before you start.

Do not do complex routes alone

If you choose Funnel Forest, cave crossings, or deeper forest routes, do not improvise alone. Mobile signal, route signs, and terrain can be unreliable for first-time visitors. Use a local guide or follow a mature route.

Treat Maolan as a half-day to full-day nature plan

A light Qinglong Pool-style route can fit into half a day. Forest, cave, or multi-stop routes need a full day, and staying nearby can make the visit easier. Do not compress Maolan into a quick add-on after Xiaoqikong.
