Treat Yaoshan Ancient Village as a cultural stop
Yaoshan Ancient Village is not a nature site and not just a photo village. Its value is Baiku Yao culture, village-gate rituals, old grain barns, bronze-drum symbols, the Yao King's residence, and folk performances. It works well after Xiaoqikong or Daqikong as a cultural contrast to the natural scenery.
Follow the route from gates to square, old buildings, and experiences
Start with the three village gates and welcoming ritual, then move to the bronze-drum square, old grain barns, and Yao King's residence. This order makes the village easier to understand than wandering randomly.
Decide early whether to stay for the show or banquet
If you only walk through the village during the day, about 2 hours is enough. If you want the Yaoshan Yaoren live show, bonfire activity, or long-table banquet, plan the visit from late afternoon into the evening instead of treating it as a quick stop.
Arrange return transport before you arrive
Yaoshan Ancient Village is close to Xiaoqikong East Gate and easy to reach by taxi or car. Leaving at night can be harder if you rely on calling a car at the last minute. Agree on a return ride, check hotel pickup, or arrange a hired car before you start.
✦Allow 2-3 hours for a basic visit. If you add the show, long-table banquet, craft experience, or Yao herbal bath, plan from late afternoon into the evening.
✦From Xiaoqikong East Gate, the drive is short, so it pairs well after Xiaoqikong or Daqikong. From Libo County, allow 30-50 minutes by road.
✦Hours are 08:30-20:00, with entry ending around 18:30. If you are going for the evening show, ask for that day's schedule at the visitor center.
✦Craft activities, Yao herbal baths, long-table banquets, and shows are separate unless your ticket package clearly includes them.
✦Midday sun can be strong. Late afternoon is more comfortable for walking and connects better with evening activities.
✦If you only want a short stop, focus on the village gates, old grain barns, bronze-drum square, and Yao King's residence. If you want the fuller village experience, staying overnight is more complete.
