Decide first whether rafting is suitable that day
Shuichun River Rafting is different from a normal scenic stop. It is strongly affected by season, water level, weather, and safety controls. Do not plan it as a stable year-round activity. Check whether rafting is running that day before adding it to your route.
Treat it as a half-day activity
The rafting route is about 13 km and takes about 2-3 hours. With changing clothes, storage, waiting for transfers, and returning to town, it is safer to plan it as a half-day activity. Do not force it after a full Xiaoqikong route.
Board light and protect valuables
You should expect to get wet. Put your phone, passport, cash, and camera in a waterproof pouch or storage locker before boarding. Lockers, waterproof bags, water scoops, and other small items may cost extra on site, so basic waterproof gear is worth preparing in advance.
Decide based on fitness and your travel group
Shuichun River is not a calm sightseeing boat ride. Some sections include rapids and water fights, so it suits travelers who actually want a rafting experience. Be cautious if traveling with elderly visitors, young children, people who dislike getting wet, or anyone not feeling well that day.
✦Use CNY 190-220 as the adult rafting ticket estimate. Insurance, lockers, waterproof bags, and water scoops may cost extra.
✦Rafting may be paused, so do not make it an irreplaceable part of your day. If it is not running, switch to Xiaoqikong, Daqikong, or Yaoshan Ancient Village.
✦Change into clothes that can get wet and wear secure non-slip shoes. Avoid slippers, because they can be washed away easily.
✦Buy a phone waterproof pouch before arriving if you need one. On-site choices are often limited and may cost more.
✦Higher water levels can make the experience more exciting, but rain and rising water also make safety controls more likely. Do not force the plan during heavy rain or unstable water conditions.
✦You will need time to change and organize your things after rafting. Do not schedule a tight high-speed train, bus, or private transfer right after it.
