Understand it as the wider Libo scenic-area system
Libo Zhangjiang Scenic Area is not one attraction with one gate and one route. It is the wider scenic-area framework that includes Xiaoqikong, Daqikong, Shuichun River, and the Zhangjiang river landscape. For a first Libo trip, do not plan it as "walking around Zhangjiang Scenic Area." Decide which section you are actually visiting.
Prioritize Xiaoqikong for a first visit
If you only have one day, put Xiaoqikong first. Its water scenery, waterfalls, Wolong Pool, Yuanyang Lake, and Xiaoqikong Bridge are the most concentrated and the easiest for first-time visitors to understand. The West Gate in, East Gate out route is the most manageable for pacing and walking effort.
Add Daqikong only if you have enough time
Daqikong feels different from Xiaoqikong. It focuses more on canyon scenery, Natural Bridge, underground-river scenery, and boat sections, with a quieter pace. If you still have time and energy after Xiaoqikong, add Daqikong. If you prefer a slower trip, split them across two days.
Do not treat Shuichun River Rafting as a fixed add-on
Shuichun River Rafting is a water activity, strongly affected by season, water level, weather, and safety controls. It suits travelers who want more activity in the itinerary, but it should not be treated as a required part of every Libo route. If rafting is not running, do not force the main plan around it.
Use Libo County as your lodging and transport base
Libo County, Libo Ancient Town, and the Xiaoqikong East Gate area can all work as bases. Staying in the county makes dinner easier; staying near Xiaoqikong saves time for an early scenic-area start. For Xiaoqikong and Daqikong, leave time for transfers, queues, and the internal sightseeing bus. Do not plan only by map distance.
✦Do not plan your day by searching only for a "Zhangjiang Scenic Area entrance." In practice, tickets and routes need to be planned around specific sections such as Xiaoqikong, Daqikong, and Shuichun River.
✦Plan Xiaoqikong and Daqikong with the joint-ticket logic: entrance ticket is CNY 120. Adult packages with sightseeing bus and insurance are CNY 170-200. Daqikong boat is separate: CNY 20 one way or CNY 40 return.
✦Xiaoqikong is the most time-consuming section. Allow 5-6 hours for a complete visit. If you also add Daqikong, do not schedule a late same-day departure too tightly.
✦Entry and ticket sales have cutoff times, and water activities can be affected by weather and safety controls. Arriving in the afternoon reduces your choices.
✦Water color is better in the wetter green season and on clear days, but crowds are also heavier. Arrive early if you want fewer queues.
