Three archaeological spaces
A visit to the Bohai Kingdom Shangjing Longquanfu Site includes the Bohai Shangjing Site Museum, the Shangjing Longquanfu Palace City Site and Xinglong Temple. All three are in Bohai Town, Ning'an, about 2–3 kilometres apart, with separate entrances and car parks. Calculate the movement between all three stops when planning the day.
Separate tickets and opening hours
The museum costs about CNY 50, Xinglong Temple CNY 20 and the palace-city site CNY 30. Some ticket channels have listed a combined ticket for all three at about CNY 66.5; confirm availability. No reservation is required. The museum commonly opens 08:30–17:00 with last entry at 16:00, Xinglong Temple 08:30–16:00, and the palace-city site 09:00–17:00 with last entry at 16:00. Confirm the museum's operating status before departure.

The site museum
The museum is a useful first stop for the historical background of the Bohai Kingdom and Shangjing. Focus on roof tiles inscribed with “Shangjing” (上京), excavated artefacts and architectural components. The galleries centre on objects and explanatory panels, making them best for visitors with a strong interest in history and time to read.
The palace-city site
The palace-city site preserves palace platforms, city walls and traces of a capital layout modelled on Tang-era cities. The First Palace platform and the distant city gate help visitors understand the overall plan. This is an open-air archaeological site, so walking distance, sunlight and seasonal trail conditions affect the time spent there.
Xinglong Temple
Xinglong Temple's highlights include the Bohai-era stone lantern pillar, thousand-year-old stone tortoise and Qing-dynasty rebuilt halls. The Mahavira Hall retains Qing-style wooden bracket sets. This is a religious site for quiet viewing of its artefacts and architecture; its scale is more modest than a major temple complex.

The 3–4-hour complete route
Start at the Bohai Shangjing Site Museum for the artefacts and Shangjing roof tiles, then take a vehicle to Xinglong Temple for the stone lantern pillar and stone tortoise, and finish at the palace-city site for the platforms and walls. The museum–temple–palace-city order gradually moves from historical context to physical objects and spatial remains.
The approximately 1.5-hour short route
With limited time, start at the palace-city site to see the palace layout, then continue to Xinglong Temple for the stone lantern pillar. These two stops still require separate tickets and vehicle arrangements. If the museum's operating status is unconfirmed or it is close to closing, remove it from the fixed route for that day.
Moving between the three stops
The three sites are 2–3 kilometres apart, making a walking connection time-consuming. Self-driving is practical, as are local three- or four-wheel electric carts in Bohai Town. Each site has parking; on arrival, ask about the transfer and return to the next stop before entering.
Get there
Train and local vehicle
Take a train from Mudanjiang Station to Dongjingcheng Station, then transfer to a local three- or four-wheel electric cart for about 20–30 minutes. There is no metro service. When transferring, state the exact destination—museum, Xinglong Temple or palace-city site.
Self-driving and parking
Driving from central Mudanjiang to Bohai Town makes it easier to visit the three stops in sequence, and each attraction has a car park. If continuing to Jingpo Lake, allow at least another 30 minutes of driving and calculate Jingpo Lake's tickets and internal transport separately.
Know before you go
Prices and last admission
The three tickets are calculated separately. Confirm whether the combined ticket is available, the day's price at each stop and the last admission time at the ticket window; the museum's operating status especially needs advance checking. Even with a three-attraction combined ticket, the drive between stops still takes time.
How to visit Xinglong Temple
Keep quiet inside the temple, dress neatly and view the stone lantern pillar, stone tortoise and halls along the open route and according to on-site directions. Follow the signs for photography, and do not touch or approach the artefacts. If temporary worship arrangements, construction or no-photography notices are in place, follow the day's instructions.
Food and combining attractions in town
Food options near the three sites are limited. Return to Bohai Town for dumplings and Northeast dishes at places such as Bohai Town Big Dumpling Restaurant, and ask the price of seasonal dishes before ordering. If continuing to Jingpo Lake, allow at least another 30 minutes of driving and calculate Jingpo Lake's tickets and internal transport separately.
