Plan at a glance
A near-city entrance
Mudan Peak National Forest Park is in Tieling Town, Dong'an District, Mudanjiang. The main entrance is beside the road and easy to identify by the stone sign reading “Mudan Peak National Forest Park” and the car park. The park itself is the main destination and works well as a half-day light hike from the city.
Tickets and opening hours
The ticket is CNY 10 per person in the roughly April–October peak season and free in winter; older adults, children and students have other concessions. No reservation is required. The park is open all day, while the ticket office is open for reference around 08:30–16:30. Confirm the day's charge according to the season when buying the ticket.

Choose your visit
Mudan Tower and the summit platform
Mudan Tower stands at the summit and is the park's landmark. It is often closed to climbing for safety or fire-prevention reasons, so the main viewpoint is the platform around the tower. From there, visitors can see Mudanjiang and the surrounding forest; early morning and late afternoon usually provide softer light.
Forest and four-season scenery
Forest covers about 92.3% of the park. The main forest path is good for red pines and seasonal plants: wildflowers in spring and summer, multicoloured autumn hills, and snow and ski scenery in winter. The lotus pond at the foot of the mountain is worth a dedicated stop only during its summer flowering season.
Who suits the half-day hike
The park suits visitors looking for a short walk near the city, nature photography or a short family outing. Plan for 1–3 hours. Treat climbing Mudan Tower as unavailable unless confirmed; when snow or ice covers the paths in winter, choose the short route or loop according to your footwear and ability.
For a waterside forest route with Yixiantian and Little Huangshan, see Sandaoguan National Forest Park.
Build your day
The approximately 1-hour short route
From the entrance, follow the main path uphill on a gentle slope. Walk about 15–20 minutes to the summit platform, view the exterior of Mudan Tower and the city panorama, then descend the same way. With limited time or a group that prefers less exertion, this section is sufficient; there is no need to force the complete loop.
The 2–3-hour loop
Climb from the entrance and choose between the gentler slopes and stepped sections along the way. After reaching the summit, descend by the path on the other side to form a loop. The route mainly offers forest and observation platforms. Use the facilities and sort out supplies at the foot of the mountain before setting out, then extend the visit only if the seasonal conditions allow.
A seasonal order
In spring and summer, put the foot-of-mountain lotus pond and main forest path first. In autumn, leave the summit platform for the multicoloured forest view. In winter, check the snow and ice conditions before climbing. Whether Mudan Tower allows entry does not affect the outer platform visit, so plan around the platform rather than the tower interior.
Get there
From central Mudanjiang
After arriving at Mudanjiang Station, check in the city for Bus Route 24 towards Tieling Town and the park; the bus ride takes about one hour. A taxi or self-drive makes a half-day schedule easier. Set the navigation destination directly to “Mudan Peak National Forest Park.”
Parking and walking inside
There is a car park at the main entrance. After driving there, follow the main path uphill on foot. There is no direct metro information; the sights inside are reached from the entrance on foot, and both the short route and loop start and finish at the entrance.
Know before you go
Mudan Tower may remain closed
Mudan Tower is often not open for climbing, so visitors should focus on the tower exterior and observation platform. Confirm before departure whether entry into the tower is allowed that day. Do not cross closed areas or approach an unsafe edge for a photo.
Toilets, insects and trail conditions
There are very few public toilets along the route, with only a dry toilet at the summit; use the facilities at the entrance first. Bring mosquito repellent in summer and wear warm, non-slip shoes in winter. Snakes may be present in the forest, so stay on the main paths and trails and avoid unattended forest areas.
Food after the descent
There are few major attractions around the park. After the visit, look for local meals such as guogai barbecue (锅盖烤肉), a local-style grilled-meat meal, roast duck and malatang in Tielinghe Town. If returning by bus, allow about one hour for the trip back to the city and arrange an evening vehicle in advance.
