Plan at a glance

Now called the Nature Discovery Center; formerly the Nature Museum

Kangbashi Nature Discovery Center was formerly known as Kangbashi Nature Museum. Its displays focus on ecological specimens, reconstructed environments and digital interaction. If your map shows the old name, it refers to the same venue. Check the address so you do not navigate to a different museum.

Look at free admission and interactive experiences separately

General admission is free. Some digital experiences, including the Future Cinema, VR activities, Jiaolong submersible simulator and Animal Painter, may require separate payment or operate at scheduled times. Check the available activities and prices when you arrive.

Choose your visit

Explore life and habitats across three permanent galleries

The main galleries are “Traces of Life,” “Life in All Its Diversity” and “Life Endures.” Follow the route suggested by the center. The displays feature specimens and themed environments showing animals and natural settings from different regions. Take time to read the information in each gallery instead of rushing through them all.

Recreated animal scenes are not live-animal encounters

Recreated habitats inspired by the African savanna and forests of North America and Eurasia let visitors explore animal specimens in lifelike settings. These are museum displays, not live-animal encounters. Please do not touch the specimens or enter restricted display areas.

Digital experiences have different content and schedules

Other experiences listed at the center include the Jiaolong submersible, Future Cinema, interactive kiosks and Animal Painter. Hours, age requirements, fees and waiting times may differ. After arriving, check the current information and choose one or two that interest you. Do not plan around an experience that is not open that day.

For a wider Kangbashi route through public squares, parks and lakeside areas, see Kangbashi Tourist Area.

Build your day

Easy route | About 1–1.5 hours

If you are short on time, visit the three main galleries in this order: “Traces of Life,” “Life in All Its Diversity” and “Life Endures.” Adjust the time you spend according to your group’s interests. If a gallery is temporarily closed or the route has changed, follow the signs and do not enter areas that are closed to visitors.

Add time if you want an interactive experience

The center’s visitor guide suggests allowing about 1–2 hours. If you also want to see a film or try an interactive experience, first check its start time, queue and duration, then decide whether to include it. Show schedules and waiting times affect the total visit; you do not need to fit every digital experience into one trip.

Get there

On the west side of Kangzhen, on Kangyi Avenue

Search for “Kangbashi Nature Discovery Center” or “Kangbashi Nature Museum,” and check that the destination is on Kangyi Avenue, west of Kangzhen. The center lists Kangzhen and Zihua Garden as bus-stop references. Confirm the stop and service frequency using current bus information.

Check current bus and parking information

The visitor guide lists Route 601 (Kangzhen stop) and Route 602 (Zihua Garden stop), as well as an outdoor parking lot; it does not specify whether parking is paid. Check current bus service and parking rules before traveling. If you also plan to visit Ordos Museum or the Science and Technology Museum, navigate to each venue separately and allow time to travel across the district; they are not connected as one museum complex.

Know before you go

Open daily; check the last-entry notice

The center’s visitor guide lists opening hours of 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Monday through Sunday. Ctrip says last entry is at 5:00 p.m. Plan to arrive before 5:00 p.m. and follow the center’s notice for any temporary changes.

Confirm guided tours and special events separately

Whether public guided talks, overnight stays or hands-on activities are offered—and their registration methods, age requirements, times and fees—depends on the center’s current event notices. If you have not confirmed a special event, plan for a regular visit.

Protect the exhibits and follow venue rules

The center asks visitors not to touch specimens, to keep noise down and to watch children in their group. When visiting with children, distinguish interactive equipment from display areas and follow staff instructions. If a temporary exhibition, equipment maintenance or another change affects access, stay within the areas open to visitors.
