Plan at a glance
An open urban area best explored by choosing individual stops
Kangbashi Tourist Area brings together city squares, parks, lakeside areas and cultural buildings. There is no single entrance gate, admission ticket or set of opening hours for the whole area. Outdoor public spaces are good for a walk, while museums, the library, cinema and interactive attractions each have their own hours, entry rules or fees. Check each place you plan to visit before setting out.
Check the map before deciding how far to walk
Genghis Khan Square, cultural buildings, Ulaan Mulun Lake, the Wedding Culture Park and Mongolian Chess Square are all places to visit around Kangbashi. The city is spread out, however, and places that look close on a map may not be convenient to reach entirely on foot. Choose one main area first, then decide whether to add another stop based on the distance and your group’s stamina.

Choose your visit
See the city axis from Genghis Khan Square
The square is themed around Genghis Khan and grassland culture and forms part of Kangbashi’s urban landscape. It is a good place to take in the sculptures, the scale of the plaza and the surrounding architecture. The themed sculptures here are not part of the Genghis Khan Mausoleum Scenic Area in Ejin Horo Banner; the two are separate places with different attractions and ticket arrangements.
Treat building exteriors and indoor visits separately
Ordos Museum is a city landmark, and the library’s distinctive shape makes it a popular photo stop. If you want to go inside either building, check its own opening hours, ID requirements, closing days and event schedule. Seeing a public square or a building’s exterior does not mean its indoor areas are open at the same time.
Save the lake and themed squares for an outdoor stretch
The Ulaan Mulun Lake waterfront path, Wedding Culture Park and Mongolian Chess Square offer different lake views, garden landscapes and public art. Combine them according to their locations and your stamina. Evenings by the lake can feel chilly, so bring a jacket. Check on-site information and current notices for events at the Wedding Culture Park.
For an indoor nature visit with permanent galleries and digital activities, see Kangbashi Nature Discovery Center.
Build your day
Short daytime visit | About 3–4 hours, excluding the wait for evening events
Start at Genghis Khan Square and see the exterior of one or two cultural buildings, then use the map to continue to the lake area or Mongolian Chess Square. This estimate is for daytime walking and stops; it excludes in-depth museum visits, travel across the city and any wait for the evening fountain. If you have limited stamina, visit fewer places rather than rushing along the whole city axis.
Full-day visit | Schedule indoor venues in the first half of the day
If you plan to visit the museum or library, arrange the morning around each venue’s opening hours. Leave time for a meal and travel across the city, then visit a square, the Wedding Culture Park or the lake area in the afternoon. If you want to see the evening fountain, separately confirm the show and your return trip. Do not squeeze museum visits, city walks and the evening fountain into a fixed 6–8-hour “must-see” plan.
Plan separately for the fountain’s current schedule
A Kangbashi District notice dated September 29, 2026, says the Ulaan Mulun Lake Music Fountain operates daily from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. starting October 8, weather permitting; it may pause in unusual weather. Check the latest notice or on-site information on the day of your visit rather than assuming this is a year-round schedule.
Get there
Navigate to the first stop on your itinerary
Kangbashi Tourist Area has no single entrance for all its stops. If driving or taking a taxi, set your actual first stop—such as Genghis Khan Square, Ordos Museum or the Ulaan Mulun Lake area—as the destination. For the museum, use 5 Wenhua West Road. Decide whether to walk to the next stop once you arrive; navigating only to “Kangbashi Tourist Area” can make distances across the district easy to underestimate.
Check live bus and local transport information before traveling
Check the current fare, full route and operating times for the Route 301 double-decker bus using live bus information. Do not assume shared bikes or free parking will be available. If you are not driving, plan around the day’s bus endpoints. For long distances between stops or a late finish, leave time and arrange a taxi or another workable return option.
Know before you go
Plan around the museum’s regular hours from October 21
According to the museum’s October 16, 2026 notice, extended hours continue through October 20. Regular hours of 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. resume on October 21, with the museum closed on Mondays; check separate notices for public holidays. A September 30 notice extended the paid Ancient Egypt special exhibition through November 18. Before visiting, check for updated exhibition notices, tickets and gallery access. Confirm hours separately for other indoor venues.
Cross wide roads at marked crossings and signals
Kangbashi has wide roads, and some stops require crossing city streets. Use marked crosswalks, traffic signals and permitted walking routes; do not cross between moving vehicles. Keep an eye on children at intersections and bike lanes. Allow time for walking and waiting for transport instead of estimating from straight-line map distances.
For an evening visit, check weather, show and return arrangements
After the fountain or a lakeside event, temperatures and wind can feel different from daytime conditions. Bring warm clothing and confirm how you will get back. A free public square does not mean indoor exhibitions, cinema, interactive experiences or temporary events are also free. Check the venue, opening time and inclusions for each ticket separately.
