Plan at a glance

Where the second cableway connects

Golden Summit Cableway is on the mid-mountain side of Wugong Mountain Scenic Area. It connects the roughly 1,600-metre mid-mountain area with the 1,918.3-metre Golden Summit area. You cannot take this cableway directly from the Visitor Service Center: first reach Shigu Temple, then take Zhong'an Cableway or hike to the mid-mountain area, and walk about 30–60 minutes along the signs to the Golden Summit Cableway lower station.

Fare and operating window

The Golden Summit Cableway ticket costs CNY 35 uphill and CNY 25 downhill. It runs about 08:30–17:10 in the peak season and 08:30–16:30 in the off-peak season, with possible extensions on holidays and in summer. The downhill side may use a queue number on site, while the uphill side normally uses an on-site line, so the two directions have different queue arrangements.

Choose your visit

Use the second cableway to cut the climb

This cableway turns the climb between the mid-mountain area and the summit area into a ride of about 10 minutes, followed by a 20–30-minute walk to Golden Summit. It suits visitors short on time, with average fitness or travelling with older adults or children. Visitors who want the ridge walk can skip the second cableway and follow Haohanpo (好汉坡), the Xingkong Walkway (星空栈道) and Diaomazhuang (吊马桩) from Ziji Palace (紫极宫) to Golden Summit.

Mountain views from the cabin

Look through the cabin windows at the forest, clouds and changing elevation. The Mayday lyric sticker inside the cabin is a distinctive photo detail. The main view here is the vertical change from the mid-mountain area to the summit; the summit stele and Tianlu Walkway (天路栈道) are covered on the Golden Summit page.

Which itinerary benefits from it

The two-cableway option suits a light itinerary that concentrates time in the Golden Summit area. Taking only Zhong'an Cableway and walking on to the Golden Summit Cableway lower station keeps more of the mid-mountain route. The difference is walking volume and queue planning, not the scenic-area entrance: both options begin from the Shigu Temple side.

Build your day

2–3-hour two-cableway express route

Take Zhong'an Cableway from Shigu Temple, walk about 50 minutes to the Golden Summit Cableway lower station, ride Golden Summit Cableway for about 10 minutes to the upper station, then walk another 20–30 minutes to the summit. The estimate starts at Shigu Temple and excludes the Visitor Service Center transfer, ticket purchase, queue number and on-site waiting. Arrange the return separately around the downhill queues of both cableways.

5–6-hour ridge highlights route

If you skip the second cableway, start from the Zhong'an upper station at Ziji Palace (紫极宫) and hike through Haohanpo (好汉坡), the Xingkong Walkway (星空栈道) and Diaomazhuang (吊马桩) to Golden Summit. This replaces the second ride with continuous ridge walking and suits visitors who want to keep the climbing experience. Whether to switch to the cableway partway depends on your energy and the day's operating conditions.

Two ways to connect the descent

If the Golden Summit downhill queue is long, hike from the summit back to the Zhong'an Cableway area and buy a Zhong'an downhill ticket. If you take Golden Summit Cableway down, follow the day's ticket and queue-number process. If you walk back to Zhong'an, include the mountain walking time in the return plan rather than scheduling only around cableway operating hours.

Get there

From the railway station to the second cableway

From Pingxiang North Railway Station or Pingxiang Railway Station to the Wugong Mountain Scenic Area Visitor Service Center, take the official bus for about CNY 27 and 1–1.5 hours, or use a shared taxi or taxi for about CNY 30–40 per person. After changing to the free scenic-area shuttle at the Visitor Service Center for Shigu Temple, walk along the scenic-area route or take Zhong'an Cableway to the Golden Summit Cableway lower station.

Parking and mountain supplies

Set the “Wugong Mountain Scenic Area Visitor Service Center” as the driving destination; it has a large car park. Drinks shops such as Guming and Mixue Bingcheng are near the Visitor Service Center for supplies before the shuttle. Mountain supply choices are limited, so prepare enough drinks and snacks there; whether the cableway stations have sales points depends on the on-site arrangement.

Know before you go

Uphill and downhill use different queues

At busy times, the Golden Summit Cableway downhill side may use QR queue numbers: buy the ticket first, then take a number as directed and wait to board. Missed-number handling follows the day's notice; the uphill side normally uses an on-site queue. On holidays, the downhill wait may exceed one hour, so you can switch to the walking route back to Zhong'an Cableway.

Count the walking sections

Walking from the Zhong'an upper station or the mid-mountain area to the Golden Summit Cableway lower station takes about 30–60 minutes; the two-cableway express route can use about 50 minutes as its walking estimate. From the Golden Summit upper station to the summit still takes about 20–30 minutes. These estimates exclude queues, rides and weather-related waiting, so prepare shoes and energy for mountain trails.

Operating and supply limits

Cableway seasonal hours, holiday or summer extensions, queue methods and last departures may change. The precise stoppage rule in wind or rain follows the day's notice. Mountain snacks and water cost more, so bring drinks and energy supplies from the Visitor Service Center. Access to nearby sights such as Golden Summit and Baiheguan (白鹤观) depends on the routes open that day.
