Treat Tang'an as a half-day or one-day add-on from Zhaoxing
Tang'an Dong Village works best as a side trip from Zhaoxing Dong Village. It is not worth making a difficult long-distance detour just for Tang'an. A common plan is to stay one night in Zhaoxing, then visit Tang'an the next morning or afternoon.
Choose between riding up or hiking from Zhaoxing
From Zhaoxing to Tang'an, the common round-trip transfer fare is CNY 20, and the ride takes about 15-20 minutes. After getting off, there is still an uphill section to the village gate and viewpoints. You can walk, and small electric carts may also be available.
See the village first, then the terraces
After arriving in Tang'an, start with the village gate, drum tower, stone paths, and wooden stilt houses, then continue to the terrace edges and viewpoints. Tang'an is smaller and less commercial than Zhaoxing, so do not treat it like a large scenic area with a packed route.
If you hike, walk from Tang'an back to Zhaoxing
Fit travelers can ride up to Tang'an, then hike back down to Zhaoxing along the old route. The route is mostly downhill. Plan 2-2.5 hours one way, with terraces and village scenery along the way.
Set your return plan before you start
If you are using the transfer vehicle, note the return pickup point and rough last return time before leaving Zhaoxing. If you want sunset, arrange a private ride or stay in Tang'an instead of relying on the last vehicle.
✦Tang'an Dong Village itself is free to visit. If entering through Zhaoxing, the real cost is mainly the Zhaoxing ticket, Zhaoxing scenic shuttle, and Tang'an round-trip transfer.
✦Tang'an is small. Most visitors need 2-3 hours. If hiking back to Zhaoxing, leave at least half a day.
✦Food, drinks, and toilets are more limited than in Zhaoxing, so bring water and a simple snack before leaving.
✦Stone paths, terrace edges, and downhill sections can be slippery. Shoe grip matters more than appearance.
✦For sunrise or sunset, staying in Tang'an is possible, but lodging choices are fewer and simpler. For meals and transport, staying in Zhaoxing is more reliable.
✦Do not hike the Tang'an-to-Zhaoxing route in rain, at night, or alone. The route is quiet, and phone signal and signs should not be fully relied on.
✦If you only want the full view, you do not need to stay overnight in Tang'an. Ride up, spend two or three hours, then return to Zhaoxing.
