How to Visit

Connect your trip through Kaili South Railway Station

From Guiyang, the easiest route is to take high-speed rail to Kaili South Railway Station, then transfer to a scenic-area coach or taxi to Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village. Plan about 1 hour from Kaili South to the village. The common coach fare is CNY 35.

Tip:A same-day return can feel rushed after the night view. For a first visit, staying one night works better.

Plan the sightseeing bus with your ticket

The basic entrance ticket is CNY 90, and the scenic-area sightseeing bus is CNY 20 for four rides. Some online ticket packages show CNY 110 or CNY 120 because they combine the entrance ticket, sightseeing bus, and insurance.

Tip:The entrance, viewing platform, and main village area are not all next to each other. Do not plan the visit as a pure walking route if you have luggage or children.

Start with Baishui River and the core village area in the afternoon

After entering, walk along Baishui River and continue to the wind-and-rain bridges, main street, Miao Village Museum, and wooden stilt houses. The main street is commercial, so you do not need to stop at every shop.

Tip:The daytime visit works best as one smooth walking route through the river, bridges, museum, and lanes.

Go to the viewing platform before sunset

The viewing platform is the main place for the full village view and night scene. It is small and gets crowded around sunset. If you want night photos, arrive 30-60 minutes early; if you prefer fewer people, go later after the lights are on.

Tip:Queues for going down and taking the sightseeing bus can build up at night, so do not schedule your return transport too tightly.

Stay overnight if you want the morning view

If you stay inside the scenic area, hillside guesthouses have better views but more steps and harder luggage handling. Riverside or lower-slope stays are easier for getting in and out. The next morning, walk again to the viewing platform, terraced field area, or riverside.

Tip:Xijiang is strongest in the evening, at night, and in the morning. A half-day daytime stop misses much of the experience.

✦Plan at least CNY 110 for the entrance ticket plus four sightseeing-bus rides. If you see a CNY 120 package, it usually includes insurance or a ticketing category for foreign, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan visitors.

✦During holidays and busy periods, timed entry may be used. Overseas visitors should carry passports and allow extra time for ticket pickup or manual checks.

✦The village has many stone paths, steps, and slopes. Wear sneakers instead of shoes chosen only for photos.

✦The viewing platform is small and crowded, so tripods and large camera setups can be inconvenient. A phone or light camera is easier.

✦If you book a hillside guesthouse, ask first whether they can help with luggage. Without luggage help, the steps can be tiring.

✦Prices for silver, travel photos, and long-table banquets vary a lot. Ask what is included before paying. If you are not interested, you can skip them without affecting the main visit.
