An open architectural district
Badaguan is an open neighborhood in Shinan District. Walking around is free and there is no single entrance. Zhongshan Park Station Exit C and Taipingjiao Park Station Exit B both work as starting points. The district is large, with slopes and long walks; allow 3–4 hours for a complete stroll.
Free streets, separately ticketed buildings
Huashilou, Princess Building, Butterfly Building and the Spanish Style House sell separate tickets. Prices are about CNY 8.5–20, with a three-building combination ticket around CNY 50. Paid buildings usually open about 08:30–17:30, with seasonal adjustments possible. The streets can be walked all day; decide on each building according to its hours and ticket arrangement.

Shanhaiguan, Juyongguan and Linhuaiguan Roads
Badaguan's main experience is walking its streets among historic buildings, tree-lined roads and views toward the coast. Shanhaiguan Road is good for plane trees and distant sea views. Juyongguan Road has Princess Building, a boardwalk and seasonal foliage. Linhuaiguan Road has a continuous green corridor of junipers.
Huashilou and seasonal trees
Huashilou can be the main paid building if you want to choose one. The slope on its west side is good for photos with the building and sea together. From October to November, look for ginkgo on Juyongguan Road and red maples around Jiayuguan Road and Ningwuguan Road. In March and April, Shaoguan Road's flowering peach and Ningwuguan Road's flowering crabapple are seasonal highlights; in winter, wintersweet may appear around Zhengyangguan and Zijingguan Roads.

The 3–4 hour complete walk
Start from Zhongshan Park Station Exit C, follow Shaoguan Road and Jiayuguan Road to Juyongguan Road, then continue through Zhengyangguan 1st Branch Road and Shanhaiguan Road. Enter Huashilou if interested, then leave along the Juyongguan Road boardwalk and Linhuaiguan Road. The route is long; allow separate time for each paid building.
The 1–2 hour short route
When time is limited, start at Huashilou, walk along Shanhaiguan Road for coastal views and plane trees, then continue toward Princess Building or Juyongguan Road. If you only want a walk, the free streets are enough; you can still see the architecture and tree-lined roads without entering a paid building.

Metro and bus
Take Metro Line 3 to Zhongshan Park Station or Taipingjiao Park Station. Leave through Exit C or B and walk directly into the district. Buses 26, 31, 202, 206, 223, 304 and 316, among others, stop at “Wushengguan Road” or “Zhengyangguan Road.”
Parking and walking intensity
Internal roads are congested and parking is limited in peak periods, on weekends and during autumn foliage season. Public transport is easier. The district is large and has many slopes, so wear flat shoes with good grip. With children or older companions, reduce the number of paid buildings and the length of the route.

Building tickets and opening hours
The district is free. Huashilou, Princess Building, Butterfly Building and the Spanish Style House sell separate tickets; the buildings included in a combination ticket and its price follow the on-site arrangement. Paid buildings usually open about 08:30–17:30; confirm that the building is open and whether there is a queue before entering.
Crowds and residential areas
Huashilou, Princess Building and the most popular tree-lined roads are busiest on holidays. Weekdays or mornings are better for a slower walk. Some buildings are residential or office spaces; photograph only permitted areas and do not enter private courtyards. Public roads and open buildings are the safer choices for photo spots.
