An open beach in Huangdao
Golden Beach is on Golden Beach Road in Xuejiadao Subdistrict, Huangdao District. The beach is free and open throughout the day. It is an independent beach destination across the bay; from Qingdao's Shinan old town, you need to arrange a metro-and-bus connection or drive, so it is not part of a walk around Zhanqiao and May Fourth Square.
Swimming, sand and sunset
Allow about 1–1.5 hours for the sea, photos and a walk. Swimming, sand play, tide-pool exploring and sunset usually take 3–4 hours. The official bathing beach's lifeguard hours are usually 09:00–18:00 from July 1 to September 25. Beach access and swimming conditions depend on the day's sea conditions and on-site arrangements.

Fine sand and family play
Golden Beach has fine sand and a gentle slope, making it suitable for barefoot walks, sand play and shallow-water activities. Families can use the main bathing area as their base and check the lifeguarded area, wind, waves and sea conditions before entering the water.
Sunset and tide-pool exploring
Wait for sunset on the open beach in the evening. Rocky shore on the east side is more exposed after the tide goes out and can be used to observe the intertidal zone. Check the tide before going, stay in safe areas and do not enter low rocks as the tide comes in; what you find is not guaranteed.
Build your day
The 3–4 hour beach route
Enter through Gate 2, walk east along the beach to the main bathing area, continue toward East Beach and the rocks, then return to the open beach for sunset. Choose swimming, sand play, tide-pool exploring and photography according to the day's conditions and your group, and return to the lit and serviced area before leaving.
The 1–1.5 hour short route
Enter through Gate 1, photograph the “Golden Beach Stone,” then walk west along the shore toward Beer City before turning back. This route suits visitors who only want the sea, photos or time near the beach while waiting for cross-district transport. Showers, changing rooms and rentals can be skipped.
Get there
Metro and bus
Take Metro Line 1 to Tianmushan Road Station, leave through Exit C or D, then transfer to Bus 1018, Bus 1001 or the Beer Festival shuttle for Golden Beach or Beer City. Transfer times and shuttle arrangements may change by season, event and passenger flow.
Driving and entrances
Navigate to “Golden Beach Parking Lot” or “Beer City Parking Lot,” then enter through Gate 1, Gate 2 or a nearby open access point. Parking is tight in July and August and on weekends; arriving before 09:00 or using public transport is better. From Shinan old town, include the cross-district driving time separately.
Know before you go
Free beach, paid facilities
The beach is free and needs no reservation. Showers, changing rooms, foot rinses, loungers and tent rentals are paid services, with prices and usage set by the day's on-site arrangement. Lifeguards at the official bathing beach are concentrated in the summer season; an all-day-open beach is not the same as swimming being suitable all day.
Sun, jellyfish and tides
Sunlight is strong and shade is limited, so bring sun protection, water and a light jacket. Watch for jellyfish, wind and waves while swimming. Check the tide before exploring the rocks and keep away from wet, isolated rocks. Delivery and supplies around the beach may be affected by local management, so prepare water and snacks in advance.
