A city-history museum in Laoshan
Qingdao Museum is at 51 Meiling East Road in Laoshan District. Admission is free, and you can scan the named-registration code at the entrance. From May to October it opens 09:00–17:00; from November to April, 09:00–16:30. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing. It is closed every Monday except public holidays.
Enter from the west plaza
The west plaza is the usual entrance. Allow about 2 hours for a complete visit, or 30–50 minutes for selected galleries. This is the museum in the new Laoshan district, not the old-town museums or Laoshan Scenic Area, so it is a separate destination from an old-town walking route.

The Zhangba Buddha and “A History of Qingdao”
The Northern Wei stone Buddha statues in the first-floor hall of the west section are the most striking display; the Buddha is nearly 6 metres high and each statue weighs about 30 tonnes. The west section's permanent “A History of Qingdao” exhibition traces the city's development from ancient times to the modern period and is a useful first framework for Qingdao's history.
Ceramics, calligraphy and historic crafts
The east section includes ancient crafts, Ming and Qing ceramics, and the calligraphy and paintings of Gao Fenghan. The third-floor ceramics gallery in the west section has soft lighting for looking closely at the objects. Visitors interested in Buddhist sculpture, Song ceramics, calligraphy or local history can take the full route; the main hall works for a short visit.

The approximately 2-hour west-to-east route
Enter from the west plaza. Visit the first through third floors of the west section and the “A History of Qingdao” exhibition, then use the third-floor circular corridor to reach the east section. Continue through the ancient crafts, Ming and Qing ceramics, and Gao Fenghan calligraphy galleries. Go down from the east section's second floor to the temporary galleries, then leave through the east gate.
The 30–50 minute short route
After entering from the west, see the Zhangba Buddha in the first-floor hall, then take the elevator to the third-floor ceramics gallery for a quick look. If time allows, use the connecting corridor to reach the east section. Confirm the exit direction before leaving; temporary exhibitions and special shows depend on the day's opening arrangement.
Get there
Metro and bus
Take Metro Line 11 to Convention Center Station; Exit E brings you near the museum. Buses 230, 321 and 386, among others, stop at “Qingdao Museum.”
West plaza and parking
Entering through the west plaza works best with the west-to-east route. Parking inside can be limited on weekends and public holidays. Paid parking at nearby places such as Lida Shopping Center is another option, followed by a walk to the west plaza.

Gallery circulation and pacing
The east and west sections are connected by a corridor, and there are many galleries. First-time visitors should remember the west-to-east order. An audio guide or QR explanation can help with the exhibits. Some areas may change during exhibition installation, so follow the on-site directions.
