A free traditional-architecture stop
Qingdao Tianhou Temple is at 19 Taiping Road in Shinan District. Admission is free, no advance reservation is required, and you can scan the code at the entrance for named registration or enter with your ID card. From May to October, it usually opens 09:00–18:00; from November through April, 09:00–17:00. It is closed every Tuesday except public holidays.
How long to allow
Allow about 1–1.5 hours for a complete visit, or 30–40 minutes for the front courtyard, main hall, old tree and sea view at the rear. The temple is compact; its main appeal is the relationship between the courtyards, Mazu culture and the historic coastal setting, so it fits easily into an old-town walking route.

Courtyards, main hall and Mazu culture
The main gate, front courtyard opera stage, courtyards and main hall make up the core visit. The main hall houses a statue of Mazu and introduces the connection between Qingdao's coastal city life and fishing culture. The side halls' folk-custom and intangible-cultural-heritage displays suit visitors interested in local history; the areas open to visitors depend on the day's arrangement.
Ancient ginkgo and the rear sea view
The temple has an ancient ginkgo tree more than 500 years old, which is especially photogenic when its leaves change in late autumn. From the rear courtyard, you can see Zhanqiao Pier and the sea. The buildings, courtyards and coastal views are all close together.

The 1–1.5 hour complete route
Enter through the Taiping Road gate, visit the front-courtyard opera stage, cross the courtyard to the main hall, then see the side halls and ancient tree before finishing with the sea view from the rear courtyard. Return to Taiping Road through the original entrance, then continue to Zhanqiao or Zhongshan Road.
The 30–40 minute short route
When time is limited, see the opera stage, ancient tree, main hall and rear courtyard in that order. In autumn, when photographing the ginkgo, or on windy and crowded holidays, the short route is easier to manage. Check the closing time before leaving.
Get there
Metro and bus
Take Metro Line 3 to People's Hall Station and walk about 5 minutes from Exit A1. Buses 25, 220, 223, 304 and 316, among others, stop at “Zhanqiao” or “University Road”; walk from there to 19 Taiping Road.
Parking and neighborhood walking
The old-town roads around the temple are narrow and parking is limited, so public transport is better for a short visit. Walk in from the Taiping Road gate, then scan the registration code or show your ID card.
Know before you go
Closed every Tuesday
The temple is normally closed every Tuesday, with possible exceptions for public holidays. Avoid that day when planning your route. Admission is free, but named registration or ID entry is still required.
Seasons and services
The ancient ginkgo is mainly an autumn highlight; the courtyards, main hall and rear sea view remain worth visiting at other times. Food, coffee, stamp-collecting and similar services may change by day, so focus the visit on the architecture, cultural displays and coastal setting.
