Tickets, entrance and opening hours
Dacheng Temple (大乘寺) is at No. 499 Minhang Road in Tiefeng District, Qiqihar. Enter through the southern temple gate (南山门). Admission is free and no advance booking is required. Reference hours are 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. in summer and 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. in winter. The temple opens early and closes early; confirm the current season’s schedule before setting out.
Visit length
Allow about one hour for the central axis, including the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall and Guanyin Plaza. To see the side halls, the Hall of Five Hundred Arhats, the Ksitigarbha Hall and Jueyuan (觉苑), then rest in the pavilion corridors, allow about 2–3 hours. Check whether the vegetarian dining room and Chan tea experience are available that day.

Central axis and main halls
The temple’s main buildings follow a central axis. Visit the Hall of Heavenly Kings and Mahavira Hall, then continue to Guanyin Plaza to see the roughly seven-meter-tall white-marble statue of Guanyin. Red walls, halls and the plaza form the main architectural ensemble; first-time visitors can begin with this central route.
Side halls and Jueyuan
If you have more time, visit the Hall of Five Hundred Arhats, Ksitigarbha Hall and Chanting Hall, then continue to Jueyuan. Jueyuan may offer Chan tea or sutra-copying activities; check on site whether they are open and whether fees apply. These are optional stops and are not required to see the central axis.
Architecture and worship spaces
The temple’s distinctive features include an octagonal courtyard wall, yellow-glazed roof tiles and red walls. The pavilion corridor beside the release pond is a place to rest briefly. This is an active religious site: keep quiet, give way to worshippers and follow on-site rules.
The temple suits visitors interested in Buddhist architecture and culture. If you only want to see the main halls, the roughly one-hour central-axis route includes the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall and the Guanyin statue. Chan tea and sutra copying are optional; decide whether to take part after you arrive.

Short visit: the north–south central axis
Enter through the southern temple gate and follow the central axis past the Hall of Heavenly Kings and Mahavira Hall to Guanyin Plaza and the white-marble Guanyin statue. Return the same way. Allow about one hour. If a hall is temporarily closed or an activity is under way, follow staff directions for the areas open and do not walk through worshippers.
Full visit: central axis, side halls and the garden
Complete the central-axis route first, then visit the Hall of Five Hundred Arhats, Ksitigarbha Hall and Chanting Hall on the east and west sides. Continue to Jueyuan; if it is open, you can take part in Chan tea or sutra copying, then rest in the pavilion corridor beside the release pond. Allow about 2–3 hours. The side halls and activities may not all be open at the same time.
Photography and time on site
The red walls near the southern temple gate work well for wide architectural views. A low-angle view in Jueyuan can show the roofline, while Guanyin Plaza offers a view of the statue framed with the halls. To visit during a quieter time, avoid the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month and major ceremonies, when more worshippers may be present. Check signs before taking photos, and avoid interrupting worship or entering halls in use.
Get there
Bus and taxi
Buses 2, 7, 8, 10 and 111 serve the “Dacheng Temple” stop, followed by a walk to the entrance. The reference fare is CNY 1–2, and the ride takes about 30–40 minutes. Check current routes and schedules. A taxi from Qiqihar Railway Station costs about CNY 15–20 and takes about 10 minutes as a reference. Navigate to “Dacheng Temple” or “Dafo Temple” and confirm the southern temple gate location.
Driving and parking
Free parking is available at the temple, but availability is not guaranteed. Drive to No. 499 Minhang Road and follow on-site directions. If the lot is closed or full, take a taxi or bus instead; do not park in worship paths or in front of the gate.

Early closing and worship times
The reference closing time is 3:00 p.m. in winter and 4:00 p.m. in summer. Arrive early enough if you want to visit the side halls. More worshippers may be present on the first and fifteenth days of the lunar month; choose another date if you prefer a quieter visit. Ceremonies and worship activities follow the temple’s schedule for the day.
Vegetarian food, tea and nearby visits
A Buddhist vegetarian meal may be served at about 11:00 a.m., with a reference price of CNY 5–10. The Chan tea room may offer tea and coffee. Check the day’s menu, hours and prices on site. Longsha Park can be a separate stop in the city; Zhalong Nature Reserve is a separate trip outside the city and needs its own planning. The temple and park have separate admission and opening hours.
